West Stand Man
mambo3 so Japp prefers players who can play in mulitple positions but not specialised in any particular position. Now it makes
sense why sometimes players play what we consider out of position. Only one problem with that is I'm guessing that academy players are not taught to play like this so that why he brings these players in and the academy players are not considered. I can only guess he is better that what we have got but according to his stats he isn't no striker but sounds like he's a grafter like kermogant

Hardly surprising that he like flexible players given that he grew up on 'total football'. To play that style you need players who can move around the park and cover any vacancies left as others move to use the ball.

Which is why he likes JVDB so much

Just because a player is played in a different position, doesn't mean he should be.

Was clear from the Bournemouth friendly he wasn't a CB.

Wasnt suggesting he was good at it! Just it seems Stam enjoys his ability to pick up a yellow anywhere on the pitch.

Has now left the building and joined PEC Zwolle permanently. Free transfer as far as I’m aware.

"Undisclosed" on BBC site, which of course can mean a free, which I think quite probable as the OS tends to say "Undisclosed" but says nothing this time round. 600k down the pan. Thanks Stam, for nothing.

Considering Stam barely played him here seems odd he's signed him again.

Clement will go on to be a much better player than the Reading teams level for the next 5 years- that’s my prediction

Sorry Strap- he was obviously not English enough for you ;)

Good for him and the club. Quite lucky for us that Stam knew him and came in for him, otherwise who else would have done :|

I don't understand how you can confidently say he was rubbish. Danny Loader, 5 starts for the club, contributed absolutely nothing, but apparently it's no where near enough games to judge him on

Pelle Clement who's also young had 10 starts, where he was starting to adjust to life in the championship and had a good pre season this season, is called "rubbish". Criminally underused when our midfield has been so poor this season, and while he wasn't exactly good value of money, 600k or whatever we paid for him is barely anything nowadays

As I said a few weeks ago people are biased towards certain players and I'm not having a go because everyone is guilty of it, including me. I'm just disappointed he wasn't given more of a chance with the way Kelly and Swift have been

Not biased against him - wanted him to do well

However 3 managers have had him nowhere near the squad. A ‘good’ preseason consisted of one reasonable half in a training ground game. Being not good enough doesn’t equal criminally underused.

And surely people are not just judging Loader on 5 games (where he has an assist - more I believe than PC, but also good performances in there - Leeds for example), but also on his England career and 9 goals in 10 at U23 (where I’ve seen him absolutely tear it up)

600k isn’t a huge amount but there players or equal ability in our academy or released by other teams. No huge issue with taking a gamble on a young player, but in all honesty, he just wasn’t up to it.

^^^^^^ This!!!!!!
I felt sorry for Clement. Would have like to have seen more of him. I think he could have made it here given time. I never felt he was in the right position. He was always played too deep. I liked his runs around the area, but the style we played never seemed to be giving him a chance. I thought he would be better in a Paul Clement system of more open play but he was never given a proper chance.

Good luck to the lad.
It just didn't work out for him. I'm sure he will develop into a decent midfielder but wasn't really cut out for the english game yet.. Hopefully we have a sell on clause which made it undisclosed.
Who is dealing with player sales these days?

bah...He had plenty of chances. He trained every day for 1.5 years - that is a chance in itself. Its the George Evans syndrome of being a much better player in absence than when on the pitch. I can't remember a single good thing he did in the first team bar one ok performance at RB

Compare to someone like Rino - same age, same position. Comes into the team and immediately impresses. And he didn't cost us a penny.

Never had a proper chance but certainly not a player I'd turn to in a relegation battle. I think he'll do well in Holland

Well said. He was a lightweight non entity for us. He himself has no idea what position he's meant to play in, neither a midfielder or attacker. Poor, poor signing. Anyone who loves Clement tends to love him because they are still obsessed with Jaap Stam and feel he is their one remaining connection to him.

I always thought he was Piazon part 2.

A neat ball player but not strong enough for English football.
