Steven Reid - gone

by 3points » 27 Jul 2017 21:23

Off to pursue "other interests". A falling out with Stam and his Dutch coaching staff perhaps?

Reading Football Club announces that Steven Reid's employment with the Club has ended with effect from today to enable Steven to pursue new opportunities and challenges.

Steven is an exciting and ambitious coach who wishes to enhance his experience within the game.

We are grateful for Steven's contribution to the Club and wish him the very best for the future.

Oh god. This only gets from bad to worse. First we buy an absolute joke striker who will not add anything and now we lose the key person in our backroom staff. Hello league 1

He's been here two years, he's just finished coaching bashes, probably got a manager offer. Not sure he'll learn much more staying in the same environment. Been a good asset by all accounts, hope he does well for himself. No reason to assume it's anything beyond professional and amicable. No need to panic.

Not strictly true from what I've heard, apparently he was a disruptive influence at times.

To be fair, alarm bells were ringing when he wasn't used as an example of how he might benefit from Royal Rewards...

Such a shame. He's a big part of why we've had such a solid defence the couple of years.

Know for a fact Stam loved having him at the club and his knowledge of the English game is superb

He wants to get into management and feels it's not fair to Stam and the club to leave half way through the season.

Given we all thought he and Beasant would have gone when Jaap came in, we did well to get two years out of him.

This. There was something mentioned earlyish in the season. Absolutely right time to go if he wishes to pursue other endeavours.

We aren't.

Only time there was any whiff of anything was that he wasn't too happy towards the end of the Clarke era. By all accounts he was on the right side of things (and funnily enough didn't end up at Villa)

Strange time of day for the club to release this news, 10 o’clock at night. He always seemed decent when interviewed, a good middle man between the players and management. I can only wish him well.

Something has happened behind the scenes here. Very terse statement from the Club about his departure, I sense a falling out with the Dutch. God forbid we should have any British people on the coaching staff

I expect slightly more than meets the eye given timing. Most people don't leave with immediate effect in any role unless something else lined up. Clearly if he pops up today/ this weekend somewhere else then he went on his own accord but if it doesn't then that suggests something else happened. My concern is that when Stam and his Dutch team suddenly up sticks and leave we have less to fall back on.

I don't think we will need to replace him as we have enough coaches.

Not sure what to make of this.

I know it's pre-season but you can surely find better ways to entertain yourself than this

I'm a bit worried about double d. His posts have been a bit nonsensical lately.

Thinking about it Jaap, Andries and Said all signed improved contracts last month, maybe Steve was unhappy with not being offered improved terms and felt his position had been compromised.

Bojack or Pepe? If Pepe there's no way he could do it. He would have a giant erection draining his blood every training session.
