Birmingham Mail seems to confirm there are negotiations going on:

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/f ... r-13456501

reading a bit more about him, I think he is very much the 'Danny Williams replacement' that people have been banging on about. Big energetic CM

If anyone's interested there's a 250 page thread over on villa talk about him.

It doesn't make pretty reading, and I only read the last 10.

Maybe its because he's just genuinely shit? Don't know enough about him tbh, but from the little I do, not overly impressed.

The ridiculous comments he made in the media last year have followed him around, that's all I really know about him. I don't know much about him as a footballer, other than he can play in multiple positions, and the impression I got from Villa fans was that he is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none.

Decent levels of experience though, good age, maybe just needs a fresh start.

Can't argue with that last bit ^^

It's important to remember that just because someone is shit for someone doesn't mean they won't be good for someone else in a different team, system etc. I think as fans it's all too easy to forget that. Good to keep an open mind no matter how underwhelming something may seem.

over 200 career games at the age of 25, many of those in the Prem

He has been repeatedly picked out of position from the sound of it, but the managers there clearly rate him

Obv done and said some stupid things, but 1.5m or so actually looks a real bargain for someone of that pedigree

Seems to be a feel that every single player we go for is 'underwhelming', bar the big names like Oliveira who we don't actually end up getting.

Ian Harte was a waste of space, Shane Long would never make a footballer, Al Habsi was a clown, Sonko was a liability, Blackett isn't up to standard, Kermogant is past it.....
What do fans know !
Until we've seen a player in our side, with our players, in our system, under our manager it's hard to know whether they will fit in. Stam's done pretty well in the transfer market and has more to lose by signing bad players than anyone so I'd suspend judgement until this bloke has signed and then played.
But of course on a discussion board it's fair enough to discuss him, but the proof will be on the pitch.

BBC just put on their live news section -

Left-back Jordan Amavi and winger Leandro Bacuna are on the verge of leaving Aston Villa, manager Steve Bruce has confirmed.
Amavi, 23, is set to join Marseille while Bacuna, 25, is interesting one of Villa's Championship rivals.
"We've agreed a fee with Marseille [for Amavi]," Bruce told BBC WM after his side's 2-1 EFL Cup win over Colchester. "There's a Championship club after Bacuna, that looks close to being over the line too."

Strikes me that Villa fans are a bunch of entitled cockwombles. Obviously thought they'd walk the league and are struggling to come to terms with their new found status.

Clearly good enough in CM to attract the attention of a Premier League team 3 years ago and now being played out of position and the resident scapegoat.

Not suggesting he's a world beater but it's clearly gone massively wrong for him at Villa and he looks a reasonable replacement for Williams.

Da Bells Da Bells Wouldnt be surprised uf he came in and did well.

Villa played him everywhere. He needs a settled position.

Agree on both counts. Not only does he have class and experience (and will be looking for a new challenge)
but he's a month off 26, just approaching his best years. He's a steal under 2 Million.

Dutch, too, but with a Williams hairstyle. What more could we ask for?

Lovely signing. Experienced and athletic. Lets not write him off until he's bedded in.

I don't have anything against Bacuna but

HOW. MANY. F*CKING. MIDFIELDERS ??????

It's like last season all over again. Crying for strikers and all we see is yet another no-mark midfielder being signed. Lack of firepower cover is why we didn't go up last season, not our lack of midfield options. Didn't deserve to beat Huddersfield at Wembley because we couldn't score in a brothel.

So it just makes me sick to hear we're going for more midfielders.

Give us at least two decent fit strikers because at the moment we don't have any. Then we can sign as many midfielders as we like.

As per above. More than happy to welcome another body and hope he hits the mark but really, another ******* winger/midfielder - we need the money spent on a top class act of a striker.
