Lump on Reading to finish top half

by JR » 26 Aug 2017 23:14

Prior to the Brum game I lumped on Reading to finish in the top half of the table at 7/4 with Sky Bet. Following today's win this has shorterned slightly to 6/4.

These odds seem ridiculously generous given that we finished 3rd last year, have significantly strengthened our squad and retained a hugely talented young manager.

Contrast that to Villa's odds of 4/11!! Definite opportunity to make a decent profit if you share my view that we won't be 10 places worse off than last year!

Those are absolutely outrageous odds, especially for a team that was runners up in the playoff. Whilst I don't think we will necessarily better last seasons's outcome, I would be VERY surprised if we don't finish in the top 10, Such an event would surely signal the end of Stam.

100% agree

The idea of bottom half seems ridiculous

Is there anybody out there wants to lend me 5K?

I think we will win the league this year. Post Christmas we will be so strong. I think we are the best side in this league I've seen since 2009

Agree our odds seem ridiculously low.

As someone who rarely bets on anything, Sky Bets 66/1 for us to win the thing seemed too good to resist. £100 each way yielding a potential £8k has been placed this evening.

Think it's the same as last year where the expected
goals model doesn't really reflect the way Reading
actually play.

I haven't done the numbers but it appears a good bet

Is that the stat that Match of the Day have started using? I don't really understand what the point of it is, surely irrelevant post-match!

In defence of the expected goals model, it's a statistical model analysing the market as a whole and it does that pretty well. As with all statistical models there is going to next odd marker lying miles of the line of best fit.

Some online sites are offering 6-1 on us for a top six finish and 50-1 for us to win the league. That's just to good to resist.

In light of the likely Aluko signing and still a bit of noise about Oliveira, really think this is one worth backing

If we don't finish top half, Big Jaap and co will be having to answer a few questions

Currently 66/1 with Sky Bet to win the league, paying 4 places each way. Just silly odds and they will tumble when these new signings come in. Even PNE are better odds than us. All based on their algorithms.

Definitely worth a few £ ew.

The same PNE that beat us a couple of weeks ago?

It seems very unlikely that Reading are going to win the league - so you're really looking at odds of 8-1ish for the top 4 finish. Not sure it's really worth that much of a punt to be honest.

In the same vein you could say the same PNE who beat us 3-0 away from home last year but still finished 11th?
