6,000 League goals - FAO Strap

by The Cube » 08 Nov 2017 18:29

Swift's first v Nottingham Forest deemed to be Reading's 6,000th league goal. Does your database agree?

I ask because the club still says Adie Williams v Wycombe was 5,000, and I thought that had been disproved by Dirk some time ago. Also, do the 1939/40 games count or not?

That would put the goal average at about 1.3 goals scored per league game based on that Wycombe game being about 17 years ago and there being fourteen 46 game seasons and three 38 game seasons subsequently.

Or perhaps the PL seasons don't count as they're not FL goals

Didn't Darius Henderson hit a goal landmark a few years ago? It might have been Madejski Stadium related though, something like the 1,000th goal scored at the stadium.

Maybe we can have a countdown to some records?

I think we did have a countdown (ish) for the 5000th goal. Might be mistaken but I have a vague recollection of it being discussed and then flashed up on the screen when it happened.

Shall we’d attempt to recall all 6000 goals ?
I’ll start with some easy ones Lee nogan’s first half hat trick against Stoke at Elm Park. Anyone remember any others ?

I thought I'd quickly add up how many goals we've scored at the Madejski Stadium (Excl Friendlies/Reserve games), Data copy/pasted off of hobnob match results pages.

During office hours, so we're being paid - quick copy/paste into excel and some whizzy formulas/pivot table.

I'm about to kill my own thread (mostly).

The incorrect 5,000 announcement was the Darius Henderson goal against Wycombe. The Dirk Gently recalculation gave 5,000 to Williams instead. Assuming that the all-seeing database also agrees on 5,000 then it's pretty likely that 6,000 will prove to be correct.

That's the one I remembered.

Has anyone broken this news to Darius Henderson? Not that he likely remembers/cares.

With luck, Reading might reach 700 league goals scored at the Mad Stad this season.
