James Harper's goal v Liverpool to make it 3 - 1 was memorable.
Yes, that was a wonderful goal. Great through ball from Convey, I think. And the fact that it was against Liverpool and not someone like Grimsby Town on a wet Tuesday evening made it all the better.

Nameless IT’s Convey against Millwall.
Goals by the opposition come hehind every goal we’ve scored, in joint last place....

+1 How it missed out on goal of the season beggars belief.

I remember Cureton scoring an absolutely fantastic goal against Brighton a few years back. Pretty sure we lost the game though....

I seem to remember Henry scoring quite a good goal for Arsenal in the 06/07 0-4 game. Carved us open.

In terms of home goals, McCleary v Burnley is a good shout as his Kebe v Leicester.

Different people have a different appreciation of what makes a good goal though.

Some people like a goal which has great team buildup, a long range strike, a piece of individual brilliance or a simple cross and bullet header/volley.

Personally, I like a first time hit shot that rockets into the top corner a la Leigertwood v Leicester.

Personally, I like a passing build up from the back that results in a rocket fired into the top corner from 30yds so Lita's against West Brom it is. (2min 58 in this clip which incidentally also demonstrates just how good James Harper was)

For a 30yd rocket, it's still Sammy Igoe's (1min 20 in this clip). I was directly in line with this one.

LWJ .

Hi LWJ, just having a quick look through these videos that From Despair To Where? has posted and, rather upsettingly, I didn't see your flag in either... Care to explain why as I can only summise that you didn't go to these games otherwise.

Cheers

I think he can answer for himself without your bullying and vitriolic bile, thank you.

Best Reading FC Goal at Madejski: Danny Williams vs Blackburn

Best Opposition goal at Madejski: Colin Kazim-Richards for Brighton 2005/06. That was a beaut.

It's got to be Conveys solo effort. Although De La Cruz run or Lita's overhead close runners.

On a really cold and rainy night at the Mad Stad I'll always hold Rougiers winner here close to my heart: https://youtu.be/pXYRr4vDyFo

I was a huge Little fan, and he didn't score many, but how that very nice goal compares with Convey running from box to box and still having the strength, stamina and composure to finish in such style, when so many recognised strikers have failed in similar circumstances, is frankly beyond me.

What is the criteria for "best"? Team move? Individual brilliance? Most spectacular? Whack it as hard and spectacularly as you can? Longest run with the ball? Most incisive counter attack? Here's one for each category:-

Team move - Arsenal's 3rd against us in 06/07, scored by Robin van Persie.
Individual brilliance - Garath McCleary v Burnley. Technique, athleticism and skill in abundance.
Most spectacular - Leroy Lita's effort v Palace.
Whack it as hard as you can - Ross Wallace for PNE on the last day of 09/10. 2-0 down, he'd hit the post less than a minute before, all his frustrations went into that left footed strike.
Longest run with the ball - Convey's v Millwall was excellent but I actually think Forster's v PNE the season before was better as he actually had to run and outpace defenders en route to goal.
Most incisive counter attack - Jim McIntyre's effort v Luton in the first ever game still, for me, is one of the best counter attacks I've seen from a Reading side. Pace, precision passing all the way up the pitch from a Luton corner, skill from Mass Sarr, and a finish the move deserved. Listen to the commentary on this very site (click on the match report if you want to know where it is) - commentator barely has a chance to draw breath from beginning to end.

At risk of being a heathen, I've never found Lita's overhead that "spectacular". Stood still, 4 yards out, relatively easy vs a lots more of the goals mentioned.
