If Stam goes, we'd still want the new manager to have as good a squad as possible. You might even be able to attract a better manager because of it. I think Martin would add something to the squad, and I'm guessing many prospective manager's would feel the same way, thus we should sign him.

Btw, it's not just about the number of goals he scores. Maybe he gets some assists, wins us pens, free kicks, and corners, etc. Maybe his movement is helpful to others. Maybe he could hold the ball up better. So, there's a lot he, or maybe someone else, could bring to the table.

Bod does pretty much all of that tbh, and probably as well if not better than Martin

We certainly should be looking to sign another striker for some of the reasons mentioned, but not sure Martin would offer much more than Yann

I wouldn’t hold your breath on the ‘movement’ hope.

Hound After watching today with Martin in mind - I don’t think he’ll make the slightest bit f difference. I can’t see how he’d score any goals the way we play

I'm sure Martin would agree and if he, or anyone else for that matter, was watching, why would he want to join?

Sunderland are offering the player an 18 month loan to beat the competition for his signature.

That would scupper his chances of future call-ups

Martin is with Derby on a training camp in Dubai. Back tomorrow so will presumably join Sunderland then or Friday.

Sunderland local journo...

@JHunterChron
Coleman saying he’s 99% certain of adding another signing - probably a striker. Not Chris Martin, though. #safc

Apparently Chris Martin was given until yesterday by CC to decide whether to join Sunderland or not so if things aren't sorted by now perhaps Reading are still trying to agree a deal with Derby and are waiting to the last minute to see how desperate they can get...

looks like we have a free run at him if we want him.

Derby still trying to sign further forwards, so will be keen for him to go, whilst Rowett has said he wont be in Derby's 18 on Tuesday. Only other club can see mentioned is Fulham who have already said they don't want him.

Martin and Elphick would have to go down as a fairly successful window if we do get them both.

Tweet from Alan Nixon today stating a couple of "lazy" strikers essentially refusing to move to play football. Slight suggestion from others that Martin is one of those.

yeah, can't say his attitude in making the move feels me with a lot of hope for him. Reckon he is basically holding on in the hope that a top 10 club come in for him. Certainly doesnt seem to be desperate to play for us (and probably rightfully so)

I still reckon he'll end up at Fulham

Yeah just talked to his maid and she said that Reading offered the most money but on condition of him being willing play as Left back ... so he's holding out on better offers.

It looks like this could happen. Pointing towards a permanent deal aswell.
Comes across as a player that just wants to belong somewhere.
Come on Stam and Brian put a big arm round him tell him he will be a main striker with us and get it over the line.

Just hope he hasn't noticed that what Reading do have by way of strikers spend a lot of their time on the bench, not in the squad, injured or in midfield.

looks like this is happening - from SSN

Derby striker Chris Martin is in Reading this afternoon, and will undergo a medical before completing a loan deal for the rest of the season.

He’s yet to agree all the personal terms involved in the deal, but both Reading and Derby are happy with the situation.

just waiting for that Bushwatch clown to spot him
