First team jetting off to Spain for intensive training

Some of the players need to have more sense. Sam Smith plastering social media with photos of him on the gold course isn't going to be helpful, supporters don't want to see that kind of thing. I have no issue with them socialising and having fun but there is no need to advertise it. He and a few of the other players need to grow up a bit.

Only idiot supporters. They are playing golf, so what.

They are out there to work and there is plenty of posts on social media showing that this is happening but they are not working 24/7, so images of them playing golf is fine. If he was showing images of him and the younger players hitting the town, trying to score then you might have a point but footballer plays golf is the biggest non-story in the world.

I have no issue with it as stated. It gives ammo to those who do, that is the point. Pretty obvious, I shouldn't need to explain to you that it's not wise to go on social media and post photos of you by the pool or playing golf. Post photos all you want if you're top of the league, not in our position though, it won't help anything.

Very good point.A little more humility wouldn't go amiss.

Jackson Corner If they come back trash Forest and Derby I will gladly eat my humble pie and say it was worth every penny.

Before the Boro game Stam had enthused how well training had gone and then they produced yet another abject performance.

You can't always judge things based solely on results. Even if they come back and lose games, it doesn't mean the week of training in Spain was a bad idea or that they didn't benefit from it.

Re. the Boro game, a team can absolutely have a good week of training during the week, and still lose a game after it. The result doesn't change that. And it wasn't an abject performance at Boro, either.

Yes, I know that. My point was, you don't always win after a good week of practice.

Hopefully they'll lose Aluko somewhere while over there and come back without him.

I think that's the only way we'll see performances improve on their return

Clever. Send Stam on holiday while we organise his replacement.

It's Barnsley. Long time admirers and Wycombe said 'managerial vacancy'

No problem with this. Chances are he's better at golf than he is at football anyway

When was the last time the team went mid season, warm weather training?
It could be just what the players need, might be a small corner turned which could prove vital.

They’re probably just getting pissed and having a lolsome good time before they come home to lose miserably against whoever we are playing next. I don’t know who that is and neither do they.

Maybe its some of 'the fans' rather than the player's that need to have more sense and grow up a bit. The 'only going there for the holiday' crew. This would be just the latest example of 'the fans' searching and finding negatives anywhere, anyhow, and anyway they possibly can. Who knows, maybe the photo will enlighten some of them that many footy players do actually play golf in Spain on training trips. (I'd actually be surprised if they didn't play any golf while out there, personally).

If Smith doesn't post the golf photo, and a tourist did, would it still be damaging? Or what if one of 'the fans' was in Spain, took a photo at the golf course, and posted it to stir up negativity? What if the paparazzi took a snap and posted a headline: 'READING PLAYERS, WHILE IN BOTTOM HALF OF TABLE, CAUGHT PLAYING GOLF IN SPAIN' shock!!! Yep, some of 'the fans' would run with that, and enjoy doing so.

You have to be in a certain position in the league table to play golf and post a photo of it? What's the marker, Top 6? Top-half? I'm doubtful of that, because I'm pretty sure if this happened last season when we were in 3rd, some of 'the fans' would still have had a problem with the photo even then. And as we know, some of 'the fans' - probably the same one's - were having a problem with this trip even before Smith's photo.

Sorry, the players need to grow up a bit to stop the internet from having a meltdown? I’m pretty sure that’s back to front.

What do people think the players do when they’re not training 8n this country?

Exactly, if I was a professional footballer, I would be on the golf course every opportunity I had. Aren’t ex-Reading favourite Le Fondre and Karacan very keen golfers and regularly post about playing golf?

That is a ridiculous ascertion almost up there with the stories papers run under headlines of "British Police in Portugal hunting for Maddie have a beer". Absolutely no issue with them posting pictures of them playing golf - videoing a threesome with a local prostitute, yep that would cause a problem - but a picture like this will only enrage the same people who get angry about whatever the club does.
