Mid Sussex Royal
Could do with Burton winning next week as would keep their season alive going in to the Bolton game.

Apart from us getting another win which will end all this uncertainty this is the other most important result of the weekend....

Burton to beat Sunderland, they are then gone, and Burton to play Bolton with so much to play for could mean that both will be gone and we would need a solitary point.

Made for an exciting end of the season, for the wrong reasons but at least its worth going to watch.

Think we need to have safety wrapped up in the next two games. I really don't want us going into the Cardiff game with something to play for.

on paper, could hardly ask for 2 more ideal fixtures for us coming up next. If we fail to get a point from those 2, serious questions should be asked, no matter what happens elsewhere

I reckon Barnsley will go looking at that lot. Still, could be a few more twists to come - hoping that its Brum that fall personally, as pretty much sure Barnsley and Bolton will be crap again next season if they stay up. Brum could always turn it around.

Next weekend's fixtures...

Birmingham vs Sheffield United
Bolton vs Wolves
Leeds vs Barnsley
Sunderland vs Burton

Decent fixtures for us. Sheffield United will be looking for a win to keep up with the playoffs, Wolves will want to wrap up the league title officially, and Barnsley have a tough trip (depends which Leeds turn up). Sunderland vs Burton is probably irrelevant to us, but it's likely to end up with one of the relegation spots taken up at the end.

I just wish Barnsley would hurry up and play that game in hand...

Probably already been noted by someone, but we could be effectively safe after next Saturday's games.

If we win at Sheffield Wed, and one of Bolton and Birmingham lose their game, we would stay up on GD assuming we lost our last two games and the one of Bolton and Birmingham team not losing their match on Saturday won their final two games. Our GD would be at worst -16 should we win at Sheff Wed, c/w say -30 for the others, so we'd need a reversal of at least 14 goals in the final two matches. Frankly cannot see us losing 0-4 twice, and the other team winning 3-0 twice given the fixtures.

Leeds V Barnsley will be particularly interesting given the Leeds manager walked out on Barnsley earlier in the season.

Wednesday's home form...

Not completely out of the question that we'll get something there. But then you look at our Away form over the same period...

Tough one to call.

We're also notoriously shit at Hillsborough in recent times, though last year's game was arguably my favorite moment of the season. We took a non stop battering at the end before breaking down the other end and Popa ran it into an open net, absolute scenes.

they had a good result against Hull, but came off the back of Hull basically securing their own safety the game before. Certainly not going to be an easy one, but realistically Weds have nothing at all to play for now, and not a great side in the first place

The goal difference is hugely importance now. Basically means Sunderland can't catch us, and if Burton drop another point neither can they. Forget them. We are playing not to be in 22nd. They could catch the three beneath us, but not us.

Don't want to be complacent, but it is very unlikely that all three of Bolton, Barnsley and Brum overtake us - maybe one, possibly two, but all three given that Barnsley have 3/4 games away from home (including Leeds), Bolton still have Wolves (going for 100 points, on a roll) and Burton to play and Brum have three games they could conceivably get nothing from.....

If you look at the form over the last 10 games none of the sides in the bottom six have averaged more than a point a game - Barnsley and Brum 10 points from the last 10 games, us 9 points, Sunderland 8, Bolton 7 and Burton 6.

Of the ones realistically fighting Bolton are the ones I fear for - only one win in 10 games, and when you look at the very recent form they have taken just one point from the last 5 games. That is by far the worst of the current form of the bottom six as the points taken out of the last 15 available show just how alarming Bolton's current form is - Birmingham and us lead the way with 7 points, Sunderland 6, Burton and Barnsley 5, then Bolton with 1 point.

Football is a confidence game, and as fans we often expect the worst to happen to our side, but Barnsley are consistent over 5 and 10 games in averaging a point a game, us and Brum have picked up towards the end of the season in terms of points gained, and Sunderland and Burton have picked up, but realistically too late for it to matter.

Bolton however........on current short and long term form and with the fixtures they have left I can see them being in trouble. Are they really going to get even four points from the nine left to overtake our current points tally given one win in ten and Wolves being one of their last three games?

Yann's header to equalise was huge as I had Sunderland as a nailed on loss. They have hit a bit of form and a point was huge.

Bookies have us at between 33/1 and 40/1 to go down. That's for a reason. If you are the eternal pessimist then £20 will see you handsomely rewarded in a few weeks.

Still been a sh1t season though.

Though at least there's something resting on our games, unlike 2 & 3 seasons ago when no games ever really seemed to matter and our team performances largely reflected that

If we stay up and avoid selling the entire team we will probably have the most experienced squad in the Championship.
Premier league football - check
Play-off - check
Relegation battle - check
Mid-table obscurity- check.

Anyone else in the league capable of claiming that?

You forgot European football and International football

(Edit - European as in Champions League, Uefa Cup etc - as opposed to playing for an obscure Maltese league or something)

Was thinking that - would there be more enthusiasm for the "player lap of appreciation" last home game if we've successfuly evaded relegation by the skin of our teeth, or if we were in, say 18th, but never in any danger of being relegated?

Incidentally, is there going to be all that guff against Ipswich?

You're reminding me of the glory of the second half of 2015/16.

Hit a bad patch of form meaning promotion was no longer on the cards, and all the loanees mentally checked out. The rest of that season was dire, even the FA Cup run wasn't that fun.

Ah yes but I meant players history for reading only not their past clubs. Our current crop includes Reading premier league players, Reading play-off finalists and Reading relegation contenders.

Remember the lap of honour after that - absolutely terrible performance capped by a last minute winner for Preston.

Then the players, half of who knew they wouldn’t be there next year - moped around the pitch in front of about 100 fans as it bizarrely started snowing. A truly great moment
