Not sure about this, hopefully he'll carry on the work Stam has done with integrating the academy players into the first team squad.

His record at Derby was pretty poor, took over a team that finished 8th under McLaren then signed: Bradley Johnson, Tom ince, butterfield, shackle, weimann, Blackman, Olsson, Pearce and Baird and got them to 5th playing terrible football...

Graham Potter, hes young, his football is fearless and he plays a style I like......I wasn't sure at first but I think he will be a perfect fit.
I think he could do a lot with this squad.

What I don't want is a someone in a first job, a manager whose been around the block, and someone whose won nothing.....I want a manager who has come from the lower leagues and has achieved things, not someone who has "done well"

John Madejski's Wallet
TBM People saying Paul Clement would be a bad signing

Lets look at this managerial career

2009–2011 Chelsea (assistant)
2011–2012 Blackburn Rovers (assistant)
2012–2013 Paris Saint-Germain (assistant)
2013–2015 Real Madrid (assistant)
2015–2016 Derby County
2016–2017 Bayern Munich (assistant)
2017 Swansea City

He's coached some world class players in his time - he was sacked at Derby despite them being 5th in the league and then at Swansea he kept them up when everyone thought it was likely they were going down...

People say he plays "boring negative football" but can it be any worse than what we've been watching all season? - he would have learnt alot from his time at Derby and Swansea (look at Brendan Rodgers who everyone thought played boring negative football when he started his career with us....)

His assistant jobs are meaningless. His two managerial appointments have ended with fairly quick sackings and complaints about negative football and poor tactical changes......We may as well keep Stam

After the dross of Rogers, Adkins, Clarke & Stam i just want to feel excited again. An attack minded manager for me please

What we need for now at least is someone who can steady the ship and plug our defence and midfield. Exciting attack is not what we need NOW.

Whether he's a good appointment long term who knows, but for the immediate problem we could hardly do much better. I mean the alternative seems to be Steve shitty Cotterill

I don't think there's been any real link to Redknapp or Cotterill, they've not been front runners in the betting which is usually a better guide than Sky Sources.

Derby fans' views on Paul Clement before his move to Swansea:

https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/24770-paul-clement/

The bit about his style of football being like monopoly made me laff ...

Think Clement will be announced as the new manager in the next day or two

Personally I'd prefer someone else but with the connections and similarity to Stam's passing style and his cv of top European clubs plus the connection already with Gourlay it's hard to see any other outcome.

I note a that apparently there was a run on Redknapp getting the position overnight which maybe better as a short term solution for the rest of this season.

Gunny Fishcake Why don't they just get a the kit man or Kingsley Royal to manage till the end of the season then decide .

I cant imagine one fan turning cartwheels for Clement , a proven failed sacked manager.

His championship record (such that it is) is good.

His one relegation battle, he succeeded against the odds.

Not turning cartwheels by any means but there are many many worse possibilities being offered up than Paul Clement.

Sounds to me like an upgrade on Stam - question is whether a sufficient upgrade. The hope is that unlike Stam he has got more experience under his belt and will avoid the same mistakes. Anyway, I'm not about to cancel my Judas bet on Reading relegation ... although I think there is now a chance we will stay up, whereas under Stam we were pretty definite to go down.

A lot of Derby fans cannot forgive him for signing Blackman for £3million.

It's moot I think cos Clement seems to have the gig. Best of a bad (experienced but unemployed) bunch.

Clearly BT and the club were hoping Stam would limp over the line. In the summer break we could pursue managers in employment or maybe choose to take a risk on someone like Reid or Lampard but the narrowing gap to the bottom three has forced their hand.

I'd rather take on someone like Redknapp (I can't believe I've just written that) to keep us up so that we still have that wider choice in the summer.

In Clement I think we're opting for safety and ongoing mediocrity.

People saying that Clement is "failed"... in what respect? He's been sacked a couple of times?

Most managers have. We are 8 games before the end of the season, we are only going to be able to hire a manager who is out of work.
