The chaps on talksport* were under the impression that the Reading job is beneath Clement, and we'd be lucky to get him.

I like it as an appointment. It's not perfect, but the best we could probably do in our current situation. He won't totally dismantle Stam's philosophy, which I actually think is a good thing, but maybe sort out defence out at the same time. He's a Reading lad, and will bring an assistant manager with him who has connections to one of the club's most successful periods, and he's also got experience right at the top of the game, and the contacts with it.

We could do worse.

*yeah, I know

Hound yep so uninspiring, he got Swansea a 3-2 win at Anfield last year

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38620045

Lets give the chap a chance - Supporters normally slag off their ex-managers. He has a good pedigree in coaching and is available right now when we need him.

Thank god for Hound.

Best man on the market. Just imagine - 6 weeks earlier we could be about to unveil Monk!

I also have to presume that those unhappy with this appointment would be happier with Mr Steve 'get yer head on this toast' Cotteril?

Bunch of absolute dreamers.

John Madejski's Wallet
royalp-we I'll be delighted if it is. I think people are underestimating what Clement has achieved for some of the world's biggest clubs, most importantly, coaching a similar playing style to our own.
#WelcomePaul

Exactly how much style coaching do the likes of Ronaldo need?
Not exactly champ plodders on a wet tuesday night in Burton is it....

I thought everyone pretty much agreed that good coaches =/= good managers

I am bored of possession football. Bored, bored, bored
If the style of play stays the same under the new manager the crowds are not exactly going to be flocking back and staying

// As i've said, i'll support him and wish him (and us) all the best. Can't help but feel nonplussed at the thought of more passing about at the back

I'm bored with possession football as well. We should give it to the opposition and enjoy their play instead.

Actually one thing of interest in this presser, is the backroom staff. I'm presuming Clement will want to bring his own men in, and I hope he does.

Hopefully will hear about it then

Whats the source for this press conference? Might be just to announce the caretaker til the end of the season.

Clement would be a good result for us at this point.

Although we all of course believe that Reading are a great club worthy of a great manager, I suspect that objectively it's not a wonderful opportunity for a top manager at least at this time.

6ft Kerplunk
paddy20 At both clubs seems to have done well at the start and then things went wrong.

Sounds exactly like what we need at the moment. Just give him a contract until the end of the season and decide then what to do long term.

Can't see him accepting a short term deal.
RFC is renowned for giving lucrative long term deals to managers and players.

BTW as a coincidence there is a horse called Clement running in the 5-45 at Kempton tonight.
Can this be a sign?
The bad news is that the horse hasn't won for 2 years, a record even worse than Reading's of late.

Expect it will be 2 year deal with a couple of get out clauses on either side.

I'm not sure Clement would want to be managing in the 3rd tier tbh either. Think he'd rather be an assistant at a big club

A good appointment, and as good a man for the job as any available. Did a great job at Derby and was sacked for no good reason, and a good first season at Swansea. If you want to see barnstorming football, this isn't a good appointment, but if you want us to win games, and to stop losing games, then it absolutely is.

Very good news. Now let's get behind Clement, and try and help ensure we get the 3-4 wins we need to stay up.

Well done RFC for not hanging around. Bloke has a decent CV. And now, rather than find an excuse for not going to the QPR game...I
am looking forward to it.

Best of luck Paul. Welcome to RFC.

paddy20 If you read what the Derby and Swansea supporters say about him I wonder if this is the right appointment. Boring, sideways passing, no plan B, uninspiring. At both clubs seems to have done well at the start and then things went wrong. Does this remind you of someone??

This. I hope we do OK v QPR then win about 12 points from 7 games
but I honestly don't think I can watch 1-2-3 more seasons of boring keep-ball

Despite getting to third I didn't enjoy much of last season.

This season I've had a personal line to The Samaritans.

Despite "an impressive cv" I seriously worry jay TWO
sets of fans (one set in the top six at the time) the
other saved from relegation, nevertheless hated the
way the team played.

I'd like him to keep us up, then say, no thanks to next year.

To put it another way. I don't think I could watch Stam-Sham Football
season upon season, even if that meant seventh in the Premiership

But maybe the new guy will show us that safety-first, possession
CAN be exciting.

Maybe

I think hated is overstating it from what I've read. Both those teams had been spoilt a bit with good attacking teams under previous managers too, so their expectations were probably quite high.

As I've said elsewhere, maybe he'll have learned a bit from those spells and we'll be a little less defensive as a result. Furthermore, it can't be as bad as it was under Stam so it'll be a move in the right direction.
