CountryRoyal So IN for the sequel of Ian and Snowball’s eBeef over Shane Long. It’s been a ‘Long’ wait. :D

You’ll have to wait a while. I have him blocked, ranked just below Norther Lad

Snowflake Royal I see the Long fan club is back.

Your predictions aren't worth much snowy. I mean you said he was a ten a season man in the PL like it was a certainty and he's done it once, maybe twice. In how many seasons? Six?

No ta.

And Kanu can sod off an all.

Remember when everyone was slaggin off the signing of Bod saying he is not a goal scorer.
Long - a proven championship striker with us, been at a prem club last 7 seasons - still scored more last season than what Bod did in 3 seasons at wolves and people still slate him.
However for the record I dont think we should sign him. Players have never done really well when they have returned to us.

CountryRoyal Ftr I’d take Long back in a heart beat, will clearly score more at this level but he offers a lot more than just that, will stretch the defence and gives us pace up front, more so than Bod.

Agree wholeheartedly on HRK, terrible footballer.

Except in the last year of his contracts.

For the record I said Shane would get 10 goals a season playing in the top flight
OR 20 a season in The Championship
OR 30 a season in League 1

He got the 25+ in his best season for Reading
and scored 11 and 13 in the top flight (excluding international goals)

His combined Championship/Premiership stats are excellent

2011-12 (034) 2194 08 01 274 244
2012-13 (037) 2350 11 05 214 147
2013-14 (032) 2420 07 03 346 242
2014-15 (041) 2179 07 07 311 156
2015-16 (034) 2374 13 06 183 125
2016-17 (045) 2071 05 04 414 230
2017-18 (029) 1606 02 02 803 402

2011-18 (252) 15194 53 28 287 188

So over the last seven years, despite the quiet times, goal-droughts, injuries
he has averaged a goal every 287 minutes, and a goal-or-assist every 188 minutes

Add to that how his hard running wears down defences, earns penalties etc,
a player with exactly these stats and abilities whether that be Shane or somebody
else, dropping to the Championship would transform the team.

The guy has just had his 31st birthday, has better stats than Doyle, Jason Roberts or Kermogant.

Highly doubtful he would come to us, or that we could afford him, but he is precisely
what we have been missing up front, and to say otherwise is just a little but dumb

The time to sign Long was 2 years ago.

My over riding memory of Robson Kanu in his last 2 seasons was acres of space on the wing where he was supposed to be. Only showed up for the cameras. A very good player when he can be arsed but the only headlines he's made in the Premiership were for cheating on his missus.

At least he can dine out in Cardiff on the back if that goal.

When I met Shane Long and told him I was a Reading Fan he just said "oh yeah?"
Seems like a lovely guy and, imo, would kill it in the championship but I don't think he has given us much thought since leaving..

You may be right, but what we need is some POWER, some speed, a few hard men
in our side. I remember the Everton CBs saying how Long & Hunt didn't give them a moment's
rest. We miss that element. Kermy doesn't do it, Martin (ha-ha) and neither does Bod
(who I like). He's not a clatterer, someone who leaves bruises, etc.

We don't have any scary players. We have become soft IMO

So that's a goal every 305 minutes in the Premiership
or a goal/assist every 179 games. Long will get 18-25
in a full Championship season

Correct me if I am wrong, but a goal or an assist every 179 games isn't that good.
