Results required for us to stay up in the final day

by TiagoIlori » 28 Apr 2018 17:18

Thought I’d clarify what we have to look out for in the final day. Remember the teams that provide significant danger to us all have tough fixtures to play.

Bolton are all but guaranteed to finish below us with a 14 goal difference in our favour
So if one of EITHER Burton, or Barnsley FAIL TO WIN we are safe

However, if both Burton and Barnsley win AND Birmingham draw we will go down.

Fixtures are as follows:
Preston- Burton
Birmingham- Fulham
Derby- Barnsley
Cardiff- Reading

With the risk of going full John Smith, it’s not going to happen.

It's so unlikely which is going to make it hurt so much more if it actually happens

Yep, still not likely. Just thought I’d post something in the hope some of us calm down a tad, including myself

To be honest, other than the 106 season and the first in the premiership, i always thought the Elm Park years were much more fun lol. Going down would be bad for the club but not the end of the world!!
Wigan and Blackburn have bounced straight back and i'm sure we probably would as well and with that is an upturn in the general feeling around the club.
And it would be nice to stand up for a few games on the terraces and a few tasty local derbys as well.

My prediction is that all teams will lose, and we'll be safe. Somehow

Well rather thankfully all four of those fixtures are involving teams involved in the play offs, so we could still lose and stay up, Still dont know how we got drawn into all this, though.

I'd be pretty freaky for both 5th and 6th placed teams, Derby and Preston, to lose at home to Burton and Barnsley, so relegation is very unlikely.

We'll have been saved by other teams being rubbish though.

We could well stay up with just 43 points. You have to go back to 1985 for the last time when 43 points would keep you in the 2nd tier - and back then it was a 42 game season.

We will lose and almost certainly stay up. Good riddance to this season and hopefully most of this squad

Bouncing straight back is not that common and just ask Sunderland fans if going down to come back is a good thing

Being consistently shit at the bottom of the Championship before eventually getting relegated isn't any better than getting relegated and knocking about midtable in League One IMO.

I can't see this lot bouncing back if they go down though. They're a total shower.

1 99 Points Wolves
2 89 Points Cardiff (Cardiff v Reading)
3 88 Points Fulham (Birmingham v Fulham)
4 83 Points Villa
5 ?? Points Boro
6 72 Points Derby (Derby v Barnsley)
7 70 Points Preston (Preston v Burton)

So Reading and the three teams than can pass them (four of the bottom six)
are all playing against sides in the top seven

Derby need a point to guarantee a top six spot

Preston must win and hope Derby lose

Cardiff and Fulham are fighting for automatic, both needing to win

The home AND away sides are going to be very nervous

An incredible finish!

The Birmingham game worries me - Colin gets 2 up on us early on and then Fulham will go into second gear thinking of the play-offs ahead and lose.

OTOH we can stop Cardiff winning and make them go into the playoffs
when Fulham win at Birmingham.

That would be worth the previous painful 45 games

Don’t think Fulham have played that well recently despite some good results. Thought they looked poor against Sunderland. Can see Brum getting a point at least. The other 2 - nope, both won’t win. Just a very grateful Barnsley lost to Forest the other day

Can't see this side grinding out a result at Cardiff so should we survive it will be because other sides haven't got results either. Were a horrible oxf*rd mess.
