I always quite liked him, but tbh it was only really the play off season - and really the second half of that, culminating in the Fulham semi, that I thought he really looked a top player.

Pretty gutted for him he got such a bad injury when he did - genuinely thought a decent start to the season and he’d be getting picked up by a Prem side

Hopefully it won’t take him too long to get back on track, but realistically it might be next season before he is 100%

Although maybe we shouldn't be putting too much of our hopes the lad. He's been out for a long time now, and his main attribute before the injury was his speed. It took quite a while to transition him from a fairly ineffective winger to a reasonably effective left back - there's no guarantee that he will come back with those skills in tack.

Would argue his crossing was always decent and his concentration is certainly an upgrade on Blacketts.

He also would come with the added benefit of knowing how to stay in position defensively which has oft been the downfall of Blackett who frequently hesitates when facing a winger 1 on 1.

Bit harsh on Blackett as I think he has been much improved this season. A positive to take from the beginning of this season.

I was not trying to be harsh but realistically Blackett has obvious weaknesses. I agree he has been improved and he should get a lot of credit for that (or maybe Clement/the coaching team should?) particularly as most of the fan base had written him off. But we can't just sit back and deny that he has a lapse in concentration most games.

I like hìm. He's calm and confident in possession and often attacks very well. You can see his pedigree. But off the ball he looks like a CB shipped out to the left flank because he's left footed.. which is essentially true.

Personally I was never convinced with Obita as a left-back; I mean he was turning out to be a reasonable choice for a mid-table Championship club, but if we had ambitions beyond that we would eventually need to bring in a natural defender.

I accept that had he not had the injury he could have proven me wrong. But now I just think it's a stretch to expect him to come back and be an instant upgrade to what we have.

Yeah, he was ok. I remember being surprised to read people (like Hound) thought he might be picked up by a PL team.

He's still youngish. As long as the injury hasn't ruined his body he has plenty of time left to develop. I could easily see him being a Cresswell type. Quietly good.

I wonder how many other teams have a third of their squad out injured?

Dave Edwards is nearing a return to training

Popa, Harriott and Pelle Clement will be involved with the U23s tomorrow (Friday 23rd)

Paul McShane has aggravated an injury in training.

Richards has just rejoined training.

Mannone is available but not quite up to match speed

He was finished when the final whistle sounded at Blackburn, I never want to see him in the hoops again.

TBH its a sign of his mentality, he has hidden since that game. If he wanted too, he could have forced his way back into the squad, IMO he still can offer something, but not for us. I dont think he is injured or ever was.

Feel for Clement, been left with such a mess.

Hopefully tevereden is let nowhere near our club gain. Between himself and Gourley, they got it so wrong in the market.

So the managers wouldn't have had a say in who to bring in then?

Same old story, just what on Earth do they do in training to continually pick up injuries. I suppose you could say it’s improving though as last international break they managed to crock 2 of the 3 senior keepers so at least it’s just the 1 player this time.

And Mr Gunter was booked at Wigan.
