Hound I get the frustration with McCleary, but to be fair to the chap, I don't really think there is much he could have done about the last injury. Seems another failing of the medical team. The season before he was run into the ground by Stam when he could barely walk in some games

And no one is going to sign him when he has been out for the best part of the last year anyway.

It's certainly not McCleary's fault, but we've been shackled to an injury prone often under performing player for years now when we've needed some quality in that position.

It's very frustrating and I do think we'd be better off if we parted company. Not sure he really should have got his last contract extension.

My predictions for what it's worth:

1. Sheffield Wednesday
2. West Bromwich Albion
3. Stoke City
4. Nottingham Forest
5. Middlesbrough
6. Millwall

17. Reading

21. Blackburn Rovers
22. Sheffield United
23. Hull City
24. Aston Villa

Agree the length was too long. But at the time he was probably our best player with 6 months left of his contract. Would have been outrage if we’d just let him go on the cheap/let him run down his contract

Either a massive WUM or complete Fcukwitt. Difficult to work out which.

This is a very silly suggestion. Swap Reading with Aston Villa and change everything else and you might be in with a chance. Hopefully, at least two new signings will change my pessimism.

What would we be happy with this season?

12th spot?

After we win the World Cup I don’t know how I could deal with the most likely mundane midtable mediocroty of a crap football team so I’d probably find it hard to get actively pleased about anything less than a playoff fight.

I should have added the caveat that hopefully we will play some good, entertaining football along the way (much better than the dullest sideways non penetrating football from last season). I wouldn't be happy if we ended up 12th the following season though. Clement must be given time to build a good team.

Yann has left....

Sure there will be a new thread on it, but huge thanks for the memories Yann. Shame that injury last year happened, as was an absolute hero the season before

Thank you for the memories but good news. Was a travesty extending his contract and symptomatic of many clueless decisions at the time.

100%. I think Clement is slowly clearing up the mess but it's going to take a while

agreed. Other than O'Shea, pretty much agreed with every decision Clement has taken so far

Hoping we'll see some more of the young squad players loaned out (Smith, Rinomhota, Loader, Watson etc) and a couple more decisions made of the fringe squad players

One of the plus points of having no money is that youth will get more of a chance and lets face it they can't do much worse than last seasons team.

I mean without stating the obvious they could get relegated which I suppose would probably be worse

Which wouldn't be much worse in terms of league placing would it?

Yes, we would be placed in an entirely different league.

With Gravenberch and Watson loans confirmed Smith’s proposed loan to Oxford and Berg’s proposed loan to Utrecht have hit snags thought to be over wages. Smith is also attracting interest from other L1 and Championship clubs....

You got this from the Chronicle didn't you? Meaning both JVDB and Smith will be on their way in a couple of hours.
