He was originally going to retire this summer to become a financial advisor.

I presume his contract extension was on the assumption that he was going to regain some level if fitness. I can only assume he and the club have realised that wont happen and he's reverting back to Plan A.

Good man. Was integral to the great 2016/17 season and gave the supporters a lot of joy. Silly of the club to have given him a new deal when they did but thats not Yann's fault.

Certainly contrasts well with Roberts who decided to milk his contract despite being crocked

I hear ya, but I reckon there would still have been a hefty settlement figure in the region of 50-75% of the remaining contract value.

Thanks Yann but a good decision for everyone I think.

Can only assume with this announcement and Smith looking likely to join Oxford on loan any day that we must be close to another striker coming in. Bod, McNulty and Loader isn't enough options to play up top.

Not holding my breath that anyone of any note will come in. If there is anyone at all it'll be another along the lines of an untried unknown quantity from some part of Europe who has an OK scoring record in nothing leagues. The club is crying out for the proverbial "marquee" signing to catch everyone's imagination and generate some excitement and interest - at least for the first few weeks of the season.

Thanks Yann.

Shame Stam decided to prematurely extend the contract, but good that Clement has acted sensibly here.

Bless you thinking Stam had anything to do with the players contracts.

Very good pro, did the right thing, big mistake to extend his contract for a year given he was injured.

A bit sad to see him go but it’s the right decision....although we have signed someone two years older than him in this window.
Fond memories of some crucial goals for us by Yann. Top man and I hope he has a great future ahead of him in his new career.

Favourite Yann moments?

PO Semi penalty?
Sitting with a young wheelchair bound fan for Villa game?
Bristol City away brace to win 3-2?

A lot to choose from.
