Bit of an odd one if true, would suggest there's some truth in those Jakkola rumours, get a fee for him and bring in a backup on a free.

Why give Jaakkola another deal? A lot of us didn’t think he was good enough and now the club seem to think so.

Someone at the club is trolling surely? It's hilarious.

Bit of an odd one, but I’d take him over Anssi certainly

Decent experience in English football, albeit at a lower division. Assume from the tweet Bolton thought he was joining them

If it’s true of course. And surely we’d have to bin Anssi at the same time

Very quick scout around the web suggest he is pretty good

Back up/competition for Mannone on a free. As long as Jaakkola goes, actually a decent signing if anything in it

You could maybe see it as we're not actively looking because we're reasonably happy with Jaakkola as back up - hence the contract, but then hear Bolton are about to pull off a cheap transfer for someone we rate, and so jump in at the 11th hour to gazzump them a la Hunt, because we think he's too good to pass up for a free.

Maybe. :|

Never heard of him tbh but he won’t be coming here happy to be No.2 so assume he thinks he can dislodge Mannone. Good luck to him if this is true.

He's 6 years younger than Jaakkola and has played more games for Colchester in the last 4 years than Jaakkola has in his 14 year career.

Looks reasonably solid. Sensible signing if Jaakkola moves and the younger keepers can get decent loans with league clubs. I think also with talk of Mannone wanting to return to Italy, there's soneone with a bit of experience ready to step up.

Chelsea thought enough of him a few years ago to sign him for £500,000.

Yeah well they also signed Michael Hector for £4m so there you go.

Has he had his annual loan out yet?

Just had a quick look at his wikipedia page. Apparently 15 different clubs (16 if you include Chelsea who he hasn't actually played for) at the age of 26. That is mental.

In fairness, 11 of them were loans before the age of 22 when he was still a Reading player and a fair number of them were short term to non league teams whilst still an academy player.

To be honest, Walker is the sort of player we should be filling out the squad with rathervthan the likes of Jaaakkola and Edwards; youngish but with decent experience for his age, potential to develop further and reasonably cheap. I do think we were too quick to jettison Bond as back up.

Bond was on a decent wedge for a backup keeper.

I don't think Bond was ever likely to stay. After he was loaned out last year I think he made it pretty clear he wouldn't sign up to be a back up again. When he signed, I think it was expected he would be #1, its just he turned out to be a bit sh!t

Agree about Walker being better back up than Anssi. Happy for it to happen as long as Anssi moves on as a result. He sounds like he has far more potential

I meant in the sense of 2 years ago instead of buying Jaakkola. I know his career didn't start of great with us but he'd done well on loan and I think a lot of it was down to confidence. It just felt like we jettisoned him 2 years ago and were hoping someone would take him off our hands. I never understood the logic of signing an international from a club in South Africa just as cover.

no can see that one. Stam clearly didn't rate - I think he was training with us pre-season before the 16/17 season, and I thought he might get another chance.

personally thought he was worth another go, certainly rather than Jaakkola
