Wimb Funny, I look at the team from that day and see a lot of similarities in terms of the problems we have now. Individually just about every player there was decent (for that level at least) aside from maybe Glasgow (even Maybury went on to have a good career elsewhere), yet together they were mediocre and never really gelled. That squad also suffered from being overly large and having lots of transition in it.
(G) S Howie, C Casper,L Primus, A Maybury, D Caskey, B Glasgow (73) (Brebner), P Parkinson, S Gray, J McIntyre, A McLaren, M McKeever (66) (K Scott)

Byron Glasgow was an excellent little player. Unfortunately, he wrecked his own career by making stupid choices away from the football pitch.

HopefulRoyalSwine90 On this day in 2011, having played terribly for 70 mins and to be 2-0 down, yet end up leaving with all 3 points was truly spectacular!
And extremely lucky....

Old Man Andrews As soon as the game was underway the lack of atmosphere was obvious. This of course wasn't helped by the lack of away support. You just have to respect those 4 Grimsby supporters for making the journey

A timely reminder that the Southbank wasn't always a seething cauldron of noise. It could be a complete morgue on days like that.
I vaguely remember that game and the away end was indeed deserted. These days Grimsby are renowned for their large away following in the lower tiers. They brought 1200 to Cheltenham on a Tuesday night in an, admittedly, top of the table Conference game. But even last season, when they struggled in League 2, they averaged 800 away fans at each game.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Wigan in front of 7500. That season was the absolute pits.
When we were turning up at an empty stadium, bereft of atmosphere, fully expecting a defeat, and convinced that the club was about to die. Can you imagine?

Old Man Andrews On this day in 1997 we drew 3-3 at home with Crewe. Carl Asaba on the scoresheet twice and an OG in our favour.
Carl Asaba is very underrated. I know he was inconsistent but I rate him.

One of the great matches at the Madejski. Preston were flying and filled the away end with a noisy contingent. Surprised to see the attendance was only 13000. I could have sworn the place was full and rocking. Memory, eh?
