Old Man Andrews I am just pointing out that his most recent job in football was to oversee Swindon Town's relegation to League 2. It isn't exactly a magical and inspiring endorsement is it?
Swindon was a bizarre situation. Sherwood was brought in over the managers head as he was owner Lee Power's best mate and although he was only DoF he was more involved than he should've been without actually being the manager. It was a 6 month battle for power and nobody came out winning and the club was in a bit of a mess (thankfully!).
Maybe if they'd just brought him in as manager it would've worked out a lot better for all involved.
Old Man Andrews Parkinson would be far and away a better choice just based on Championship experience alone. No ego either which would be a real concern for me with Sherwood. He managed Aston Villa as if he was doing them some sort of favour by being there. Not sure we need that sort of attitude at the club at this time. If we were in a position where we were doing quite well and needed a manager I might be more open the suggestion of Sherwood but not in a relegation battle.
Sherwood isn't good for a relegation battle? That's just what he did at Villa, taken over a team heading down and pretty solidly 19th in not having won in 11 games and on a 7 game losing streak. He turned that around, won an FA Cup quarter and semi final and got them to safety with 2 games to go.
They sold Delph and Benteke that summer, plus lost Vlaar, and from memory they never really managed to replace them. Add into the mix Randy Learner had lost interest and it was not an easy job.
That Sherwood's biggest career success to date was turning around a relegation threatened Villa your comment just seems a little odd.
I'd still rather Parkinson, but we could do a lot worse than Sherwood.
