We’ve been spun so much so called ‘ambition’ these past 8 or so years. It’s actually insulting how the current and previous owners perceive what they believe the fans actually want from their football club

Can hardly believe any of this most recent garbage and it could be the final nail in my own personal Reading fc supporting coffin!

Well it's clear this bloke isn't gonna last. Might has well have gone to a non league club and taken a chance on anyone. Is it time to start a "New New Manager" thread yet?
I believe we are now staring into the abyss and heading for league 1.
I just don't get this appointment.
When Clement was appointed I was so underwhelmed, but this? Dear god what is going on?

This guys is going to hands down take the crown for the most written off before he’s even started manager in our history.

IN for the Portuguese gamble!
Just watched highlights of Rio's recent games on you tube and they play an easy on the eye style, and have some good (I know, highlights) players, who no doubt we'll try to buy..
Like the appointment or not, we the supporters have to get behind the Manager & the players. If you want to throw your toys, lets wait till the end of the season, and question the Owner's.

I'd prefer this bloke to say, Solskjaer...

Yeah I’m even agreeing with Ian Royal.

Make it stop.

Bet you Joorabichian has a lot of Portuguese players on his books/owns. I bet half of them and up here in January.

Fear for our youngsters who are on the verge of breaking in/have broken in. Could all easily vanish come January.

Gomes is reasonably thought of, not at the same level as Castro by deemed no worse than Nuno pre Wolves. Can see him surprising a lot of you, in a good way. Not one I am overwhelmed or disappointed by either way - but the hyperbole here is ridiculous. I wish him well, he'll have my backing.

Which is why I am pretty confident he will get us promoted next season.

Youre right to back the manager whoever he is but it seems to me the fans on here dont want him and from his press conference HE doesnt to come.

Unless its just agents fees how on earth can he be a good choice, i mean based on what!?

Anthony Smith is going to "firm up" the news that Jose Gomes will be announced today.

Oh, you also speak Portuguese? Because that's clearly not the tone - as I corrected Jonathan Low about yesterday.

Baffling appointment, fear of the unknown. As ever results will be the determinant of the new manager's time here.

I'll just throw Daniel Farke's name out there. He was Borussia Dortmund's second team manager when he came to Norwich. He could actually have been sacked shortly into his tenure as well but they stuck with him. See where they are now.

No doubt some would argue that Farke's qualification is better than Gomes, even though Gomes is managing a first team.

The point being that appointing a complete unknown with his own ideas and style of play, can work well. It is not a given that this will be a disaster. It may be, it may not.
