Simon's Church Interesting that Charles watts says he's actually not very comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Good job we’re not planning on playing Watts in goal any time soon then....

sandman Looking at the lack of appearances during his career it's not exactly a stretch to say this isn't the most thrilling signing.

Then again a certain Mr M Hahnemann had made less than 10 appearances in English football when he rocked up on loan from Fulham.

I mean, a keeper is a bit of a bonus signing I really don’t know who we could have signed which would have excited people??

I’m honestly open to hearing suggestions.

Seen him in action a lot have you?

Jansi isn't costing us goals, and a new keeper who can pass to Ilori more accurately isn't going to get us more goals.

So this gets chalked up as a seriously uninspiringly signing.

We may be jumping the gun slightly in assuming Martinez will go straight in as first choice. Gomes might just want a stronger number 2 than Sam Walker to put pressure on Jaakkola.

No way. If Gomes wants him here it's to start.

I think there's no doubt that will happen before long, can just see Jaakkola keeping it until he drops a clanger which to be honest is never too far away. I personally want Martinez to start immediately.

And Arsenal would not have sent him here to warm our bench.

He’ll definitely start.

Average sexiness. Good accent.

He hasn't really registered on the sex-o-meter for me. Not a lot about him.

I thought we were supposed to get that Man Utd guy? The really good one?

Anyhoo Arsenal fans I know seem to think this guy is really quite good but Arsenal fans are essentially cultists who are punished every year as payment for the invincibles season so what would they know about football?

He's better than what we have and think this signals the start of a keeper cull. Mannone will be gone, Jaakola is also out of contract in the summer and would expect us to try and move Walker on too - unless we are comfortable with him as a number 2. Wouldn't surprise me if we have first option on Martinez if we like him and Arsenal decide to sell.

Given we have Southwood, Legg and Ward all out on loan with an eye on getting 1st team minutes, think we will see 2 of those 3 battling for No 1 with either Walker or a new signing.

I have a lot of friends who are arsenal “fans” who bizzarly don’t know that much about football or go to games.

That describes almost every Liverpool fan I have ever met. Big 6 eh? Wouldn't know football if it kung fu kicked them in the chest.

Don't forget future Iceland star keeper Jokul Andresson.

I’m assuming none are actually from Liverpool and most haven’t been, and a lot couldn’t even point to it on a map.

No none are. Harsh to judge them on geography though. It's pretty poor in England isn't it? National grade average wise I mean.

Agreed, but heard he is a nice size, and he is 6'4

Sure but I'm not sure awareness or knowledge of place's locations in the UK has that much to do with education level geography - more just general knowledge (which is also sorely lacking in the England admittedly).
