Nine Very Difficult Games - Predictions?

by Snowball » 13 Mar 2019 23:04

Your predictions for our final nine?

Stoke City (Away)
PRESTON (H)
Hull City (Away)
Norwich (Away)

Brentford (Home)
Bristol City (Away)
West Brom (Home)
Middlesboro (Away)
Birmingham (Home)

It would not be hard to see us losing all nine of these games. Preston are flying, Hill are on a very good run, Norwich are almost-certain top two, Brentford are playing great attacking football, Bristol; have slowly moved up the table to outsiders for the top six, WBA, though stuttering are still top six, as are Boro.

Our chances of points are (IMO) in order of likelihood

Birmingham (H)
Stoke (A)
WBA (H)
Brentford (H)
Boro (A)
Preston (H)
Hull City (A)
Bristol City (A)
Norwich (A)

That looks like 3-4-5 points before I put my RTG glasses on

Looks to me like we need a shock result, probably two.

I am not saying it WILL go to form, but there is not a single game we ought to EXPECT to win and a reasonable case can be made for a defeat in every one. I thought we were safe. If we win at Stoke I will feel a lot better, but lose there and I will expect it to go to the last game.

No doubt at all that it`s a pretty horrendous run-in, wouldn`t surprise me if we didn`t get another win, but Rotherham`s is pretty horrible too, It`s between us and them I reckon, the difference being they appear to have more fight than us.
I fear the worse.

Not too hopeful we'll beat WBA, they'll be all out for Top 6 and will have new manager in by then (prolly Jokanovic?).
We'll beat Brizzle, at Brizzle, with them all out for Top 6?
May need to win at Stoke...

Er... 5?

Stoke A - D
Preston H - L
Hull A - D
Norwich A - L

Brentford H - D
Bristol A - L
West Brom H - D
Boro A - L
Brum H - D

I can see one of those draws being a win maybe two, but can't pick which, so Ill just go with our usual limp to the end of the season with no promise for 2019/20

Bristol is complete pot luck, they seem to have won 9 on the bounce and now haven’t won in six. If they retain their earlier form, they’ll do us but they could be dead and buried by then

West Brom are 9 points off automatic and 9 points ahead of 7th. So hopefully (fingers crossed) their season will be over by then and they would have already cemented their playoff spot, see Huddersfield a couple of seasons ago losing 2-0 at relegation threatened Birmingham

They’ll be shocks along the way though, we could somehow go to Boro and get three points (again hopefully they’d have cemented their spot by then), but who knows, that’s the beauty of the championship, anything can really happen, it’s why I much prefer it to Prem games

Looking at that no chance of staying up. Can’t see us winning any and in a couple we will be slaughtered.

There could be shocks. But how often do we come up with one? When was the last time we beat a good team?
The reason we don't is because this squad has so many holes and flaws for the Champ that it's a crime.
We're a team of midgets in this league, and so we then go out and sign Baldock and McNulty to long term deals?
Ajayi has scored 5 goals in the last 4 games for Rovrum. Liam Moore wants to leave, so we give him big money?
We fawn over our Academy grads, but goals/assists? That's all our opponents care about.

Yeah, I'm not arguing anything as such, I mean our record against the top 6 is 0-0-9, so obviously we're struggling against them. I just think if Bristol can only draw 1-1 to Ipswich (I'm sure Ipswich fans were saying similar things as you were) then there's a chance for anyone. I honestly think it's now a complete strike between us and Wigan, two gutless teams, and in all honesty, I wouldn't be shocked to see Bolton overtake the pair of us

The Ajayi point is interesting and can certainly spark another debate. I know CB's aren't designed to score but I'd be surprised if they knocked up five goals between them in the last three seasons. Puts extra strain onto the attack, we may as well not have corners or crossing free kicks because we never do a thing with them (don't bring up the Wigan one because it was a clear foul)

Stoke City (Away) L
PRESTON (H) D
Hull City (Away) W
Norwich (Away) L

Brentford (Home) D
Bristol City (Away) D
West Brom (Home) W
Middlesboro (Away) L
Birmingham (Home) D

I think something like the above. We need to pull off a big result somewhere like Millwall did last night. Hull maybe the most likely for me, possibly Stoke

We’ll dig out a few draws certainly. Massively depends on who and when we get the injured players back. With our current first 11 I’d expect us to go down

We need 2 wins and a couple of draws, no way Wigan or Rotherham will be getting any more than that between now and the end of the season. I believe Gomes needs to target our home games for wins and be as defensive as possible on the road in order to try and get the odd draw here and there.

Stoke City (Away) Defeat
PRESTON (H) Win
Hull City (Away) Draw
Norwich (Away) Defeat

Brentford (Home) Win
Bristol City (Away) Defeat
West Brom (Home) Draw
Middlesboro (Away) Defeat
Birmingham (Home) Win

That would mean us getting another 11 points which is easily enough. For me we broke Wigan on Saturday, losing like that is very hard to deal with.

We desperately needed a buffer over the bottom three going into this run of games. We don’t have it. I think we are going down as I don’t see where the wins are coming from.

There's a prediction tool here if you're interested

https://thefishy.co.uk/football-calculator.php

I had us finishing on 41 points and just surviving
But that assumes we beat Birmingham on the last day

For me it looks something like this - 11 more points which will be enough for safety

Stoke - D
Preston W
Hull - L
Norwich - L
Brentford - W
Bristol City - D
West Brom -L
Boro -L
Birmingham - W

43 points, above Rotherham 43 and Wigan 42. survive with a win on the last day with the other two both drawing.

CountryRoyal Stoke City (Away) D 1-1
PRESTON (H) D 1-1
Hull City (Away) W 1-2
Norwich (Away) L 2-0

Brentford (Home) L 1-2
Bristol City (Away) L 2-0
West Brom (Home) W 3-2
Middlesboro (Away) W 0-1
Birmingham (Home) D 0-0

I’m optimistic.

+ 1

Once we get down to this stage the games almost become on a level playing field with what's at stake. Brentford are mid-table dross and going nowhere so we could easily win that and I really don't think Boro will be anywhere near the playoffs come six games time. Taking points from all of the games is plausible.

Why did we need a buffer? Where are Wigan, Rotherham wins coming from? We are all pretty much looking at daunting run ins.

Rotherham only have 2 games against teams in the bottom half, we have 3 as do Wigan.

My biggest concern is we have no win against the top 6 but we have already beaten Bristol City and Preston, who both could end up in there.

If Wigan lose to Bolton, then it brings Bolton back into the survival fight (I think draw). Look at Wigan's run in after Saturday - where does a team on a potentially 8 game run without a win suddenly pick up a win?

We needed to be out of the bottom 3 at this point and we are. We want to stay out of it before the break, baring a Rotherham pulling off a massive shock or us getting stuffed, we should do. It's going to be tight and despite the others apparently having more fight, we are still picking up more points than them of late.

It's going to be tight whatever happens now.

Bristol City with no win and 4 defeats in their last 6? They're crap mate. Calm down, we will go there and win.
