Bloody Corners!!

by John Madejski's Wallet » 23 Dec 2006 18:35

What the f*ck is wrong with our corner taking??
Do we not bother with them in training or something??

Blakey had loads today, and if (on the rare occasions) they beat the first man, they were weakly chipped-in with no bend. Exactly how are we supposed to score from them??

It's lazy, weak, and will cost us dear.

FFS I can fail to beat the first man consistently, it's not difficult. There's no excuse for professionals to consistently fail

good spot JMW, wasted time after time, no purpose, and as we lost it there was danger as Sonks or Inga tried to get back.

Murty appeared to be getting very frustrated with some of the deliveries.

Too often our players also seem to get in each other's way with the result that no one is able to get a decent connection on the ball.

12 corners today and not once did we force a save from one of them.

I really think we must be the only prem team who ISN'T a threat from corners and set pieces. You can tell how much work teams like Chelsea, Bolton etc.. put into their corners. But obviously not us.

I sh*t myself when our opposition get corners and get no high at all when we get one. Says loads really

Good point.

And not only corners (sorry I'm not attempting to hijack the thread) but it seemed anything in the final third was just pathetic.

Corners are one example of how when we had advantageous positions up front we'd play poor balls, unnecessary passes and do our very best to mess it up.

I lost count the number of times we'd break forward and pass it around aimlessly for ages with no-one having the guts to just take a flipping shot.

Firstly, Hunt was taking most of them to begin with and he can't cross.

Secondly, when Little finally did take them, there was no movement or intelligent positioning of our players.

Thirdly, the likes of Sonko were being wrestled and held down every time.

If the ball is skimmed ankle high straight to the first defender then no amount of movement or intellient positioning is going to make a blind bit of difference.

I was referring to the occasions where the ball didn't hit the first defender, which were often when Little took corners and not Hunt.

Eh? Little was by far the worst offender for it.

Not quite as bad as some of Hunt's corners as Little at least managed to get the odd corner past the first man.

Little bit off piste but still relevant i think, what was with Sonko taking all the throw ins. Most of the time we lost possesion leaving him is out of position. We're normally good at retaining possesion from throws but this tactic that was tried today really didn't work.

I think that using his long throw in their box works but when we're only just inside their half.

That too I suppose, although we're going to lose or next two, if not three games fairly convincingly unless we seriously improve.
