NEW READING CHANTS AND ANTHEMS

by RFC13LHR » 21 Feb 2008 08:39

I’m struggling to find a chant that is READING

Every chant, I hear and participate in, is a recycled version of something that a scouser, or a poor soul from south or east London or, wash my mouth out, a manc or eland road tyke dreamed up years ago

It Is mighty impressive that spurs have a chant that builds over 2 or three minutes, even the custard bowl knocks you over with the wonder of you, and stoke and others have anthemic chants that are identified with them

At READING, nothing

A few clever and topical chants have started at away matches and have then translated to the blue and white arena – and the guys in Y25 are magic at trying to get some new ones going but nothing with longevity has surfaced

Hobnob is full of wit, has a vast membership, most of which are articulate, and maybe this is the forum that can create just ONE stonker of a song or chant that will bear the test of time and will be established and be known as READING

No conditions, it does not have to have JMspeak like “bring it on” or “ make some noise” – it just needs to be memorable and different – and no expletives

Over to you

Good luck mate, you have just opened a massive can of worms with the resident cnters on here.

My suggestions
1) Always on my mind- Unique as far as i know

2) Royals anthem- Definitely unique

To get these started is easy, it just needs the PA people to play this consistently just before the teams come out. If they stick with this for 2-3 seasons it will eventually be adopted.

I said to my Mum the other day
I think I've found the new Pele
He's six foot 3 and he's got white skin
His name is Glen Little and he plays for Reading

Glen Little, Glen Little, Glen Little, Glen Little...

Repeating quotes for the sake of it is just meaningless :)

What about a load of self-conscious, middle class folk clapping? I think that could really catch on.

Give up, We have a stadium full of self-concious accountants who can just about manage to clap along BLARMY but fail miserably to show any other kind of emotion.

We already have a Reading song. It's called Molly Malone. If no-one can be arsed to sing that, what makes you think manufacturing a new one will make any difference?

Always pisses me off the way this is sung extremely quickly with a strange jerk of the voice at the end.Why not slow it down and enjoy it.Anyway is this really Reading's own work?

It was in Portsmouth City,
Where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly
Malone,
She wheeled her wheelbarrow,
Through streets wide and narrow,
Singing
[clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]
[clap] [clap] [clap] [clap] PORTSMOUTH

is it really ours??
