It's very difficult to have a completely original song as a) most football chants can be transferred to other teams or b) they are just random old songs that have been adopted by a club (e.g. Goodnight Irene, Blue Moon, YNWA etc).

The nearest Reading have ever come to a 'non transferrable' song in my mind is the old south bank classic:

"We're Reading, we're Reading, we're kick your fcuking head in".

A classic which worked because as far as I can work out, no one apart from Yeading can copy it. On that note, a friend of mine tried to come up with an equivalent for Aston Villa, which went:

"We're Villa, we're Villa, we're sh*g your mum and kill her"

Not sure it caught on in the Holte End....

Of the current batch, I do like 'We're not Real Madrid..."; and "E I E I E I E O...." is also good. Just those two alone would be an improvement on last year.

As for adopting a more well know song; "Sweet Caroline" really isn't a bad shout, but it would need to be song more away before it ever caught on at home. "You are always on my mind" has far too many words for the average RFC fan to handle.

Now watch me rise up and leave all the ashes you made out of me
When you said that we were wrong, life goes on, just look how long I've agreed

Sing it i dare you!

Why are we even debating this when it is so clearly Bill Oddie?
It's already caught on big time amongst away game regulars, is popular on here and surely must be unique to us.
It's easily repeatable, and if the young whipper snappers can learn that you don't have to sing at a million miles an hour and accelerate as fast as you can until breathing is no longer possible, it'll work fine.

Also no one has yet planned a song on HNA and got it recognisably sung round the stadium that I know of. What makes anyone think the last 10 years of failure will be turned around now?

All the best HNA suggested ones never catch on. I really liked the Ricky Newman Addams Family one, but that barely saw the light of day.

What has Bill Oddie got to do with Reading?

What has You'll Never Walk Alone got to do with Liverpool or Celtic, or Delilah got to do with Stoke?

Why does it have to have anything to do with Reading?

I hate YNWA with a passion, but it's a good football song as is Delilah.

Bill Oddie song is just rubbish.

Always on my mind is better.

You seem to have failed to answer the question. Not only that, but you've then gone against your own reason for it not being Bill Oddie, by suggesting another song that has nothing to do with Reading.

Good Job.

Nope. The 'person' BILL ODDIE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH READING, so why sing about him? Football clubs can adopt songs such as Always on my mind.

Exactly the same as Delilah has to do with Stoke, Saying goodnight to Irene at Bristol Rovers and being Glad all Over about being a Palace fan - but it works for them.

Further to the Kebe song...

Let it never be said,
That our football is dead,
but there's not a lot else,
Going on in our heads,
There is nothing as sweet,
As the pass he can see,
Doyle & Kitson up front,
Knocking it into their feet,
Kebe, Kebe, Kebe, Kebe

The there is Valerie...

Sometime we go out on the field,
And our forwards are on fire,
But we're shocking at the back,
And our midfield play is really dire,
Since he went to Chelsea our midfield has been a mess,
And we miss his ginger hair and opponants he would kick,
So now we need a hero,
Won't you come and play for Steve and Wally,
Won't you come on over Matejovski

I don't get it. Robbie Keane is smaller than Doyle....and better.

What's Molly Malone got to do with any of the clubs who sing about her.

At least you've tried to answer the question this time.

Song, person no difference.

Bill Oddie the song is something unique to us, which fits our fanbase fairly well. Not that debate on a message board really makes a blind bit of difference.

I can't think of anything worse.

In fact I'm tempted to hunt you down and brutally murder you for even suggesting it.

This thread is even more shite than the usual no atmosphere, chanting ones. I would suggest some myself but am not pissed enough - may have a go later :)

Indeed. Nice to see a Chelsea fan being inspired by Walsall FC as well.
