On the pitch it's ceremonial but in the dressing room, training ground and behind the scenes the club captain plays a pretty signifcant role.
I seem to remember Harper saying he didn't really like that side of it whislt filling in (on the pitch) for Murty and so didn't feel he was best suited to it long term, so maybe that's a black mark against him.

I'd think he'd need another season to well and truly establish himself as no.1 choice for centre back before he is even considered for the armband. Next season, maybe.
