In terms of adding time on for the subs I'd say they do that pretty accurately for most games.

For general time wasting they're not quite as sharp on it, but when you're the away team and doing it quite baltently at times they'll add it on more often than not.

I wasn't expecting 6 minutes though, 5 maybe, but I can see where the time came from.

The ref obviously felt we were time wasting, hence the booking of Bertrand, and so was always going to be adding on a decent amount for that, a minute or two.

Throw in two goals to celebrate, the penalty award and subsequent debate and sending off and I can understand it being a lot of time added on.

6 is quite a lot, and apparently he played 7 in the end, but not totally excessive really.

The guidelines are 30 seconds per sub, and 30 seconds per goal. At the end of the 45 mins, 5 subs had been used, and 2 goals scored; thats 3.5 mins. Add in the timewasting - say a minute or so, rounded up I could see it being 5 mins. The 6th minute is the puzzle. (the time added on after the 6th minute was for our 3rd substitution which came AFTER the original time added).

The penalty and sending off are part of play and so should NOT have time added on for them.

Perhaps those one on one's with Lampard Snr did him some good.

I'm with Hoop Blah - he looks slimmer and lighter on his feet. He's also very good in the air - it's tough to play up front on your own and he won loads of headers on Saturday.

Still has a suspect touch though - dished out some borderline hospital balls to his teamm8s in the second half.

Yep.

He got away with his first touch a fair bit against Donny, but he still rarely controlled it close to him.

That depends on how much time is spent delaying the kick and arguing the decision though.

I don't think there was significant undue delay, but in the same way as a goal kick is part of the game, the ref can and should add on time if the taking of the kick involves an undue delay. I guess that the ref added on time for what he thought were Reading delaying tactics for the penalty incident as well as throughout that second half.

Their centreback was down injured for a bit before he was subbed - I think that was second half.
Karacan was down for a bit as well, although the physio didn't come on iirc.

The time taken for Mills to leave the pitch isn't - easy to add a minute for that.

Plus when he thought we were wasting time enough to book Bertrand I think he'd add on more than just one minute.

Injury to Karancan plus the buiness when the Donny striker jumped in on Feds.

I have no complaints about the 6 minutes

What is surprising is how little time is added on when Stoke play with all of those protracted throw-ins.
It just needs Fergie to make a fuss and then all of the refs will add on more time just as they now do for all Man Utd games.

Don't know about that one. If a referee awards a penalty one second from the end of normal (or extra) time, he must add on time for the kick to be taken. Apart from injury/additional time, it is the only reason the ref would add on time.

Watching on the internetz, he clearly indicated to Bertrand that he'd indicated to the team that we were wasting time on a couple of occassions, so perhaps he'd already told us to stop wasting time. To be fair, we were really taking our time by that point.

Then all I can say is you must have plenty to complain about in most games with similar stoppages and similar time wasting, where only a fraction of this time is added

Simple solution is to have a clock in the ground and stop it on the refs instruction, as in rugby. There are no arguments about time keeping in rugby - plenty of other things that the refs get up to but not time keeping. Why can't we have the same in football?
