Most Iconic Reading FC picture

Post Focher, 08 Feb 2010 17:16

What picture do you feel is the most iconic picture relating to Reading FC?

Murty lifting the championship trophy?

Hicks lifting the Simod Cup?

Madejski shaking hands with Fae after we signed him?

This for me just about sums up the club i love:

The Winchester one I have as my computer wall paper every now and again when i need cheering up, the Focher one is just a man in a funny hat! I don't like the Championship trophy ones as I was in bloody Latvia on a bloody stag weekend!!!

Absolutely right Ark Royal. Clive Thomas was the ref wasn't he?

Wikipedia wrote:His goal against Tranmere Rovers in March 1976 has been described as one of the greatest ever goals - sadly this was a time when most lower division matches were never recorded for television. Friday was waiting just outside the left hand corner of the box when the ball came across to him. He subsequently leaped high into the air, caught the ball on his chest, with his back to goal, spun around 180 degrees, and proceeded to fire the ball into the net, stunning the Tranmere defenders, to the great roar of the crowd. The referee that evening, the internationally-experienced Clive Thomas, held his hands in his face in disbelief and afterwards described it as one of the best goals he had ever witnessed. In response, Friday in typical fashion quipped that he should come more often as he does that sort of thing every week!

TBF Seahawk is a yank across the pond and a relative newcomer to the ranks. I've been around 15 years and I only heard it for the first time a few years ago.

Yeah that was the goal of all goals. Stood in the Tilehurst End. Bovril everywhere. The man was pure genius. However, as with a lot of mercurial talents, his life style was allegedly reckless at times - to say the least.

I quite like Lita's overhead kick picture. It sums up to me the dominant football we were playing at the time.

Can't find a link to it, but Murty's penalty v QPR has to to be a contender.
