Injured Players

by bigmike » 02 Jul 2010 12:02

Brian McDermott has been quoted on the offical site saying that Ivar is the only player that is not going to be training with the first team and is expected to be back within the month..

Does that mean that Chris Armstrong is fit again???

More like that Chris has 'retired', I'd say.

True, but given both scenarios - I'd put more money on Chris retiring than being fighting fit for next season.

It has been mentioned in one interview in the local press that he may have to retire, but it may be a case of until the insurance say yes to a payout it would not be official?
Let's hope that is not the case and he is back to play a big part in this season.

I expect he won't official retire until they see how he gets on with some light training and fitness tests in preseason. I wouldn't expect an announcement he's retiring before a couple more weeks have gone by at least. Possibly might have to wait until after the season starts.

It would be awesome news to have Armstrong back fully fit for the season though. With him and Griffin at full back that would give us a lot of quality at the back. Quality that allows us to more easily get away with two quite lightweight wingers playing ahead of them in Kebe & McAnuff IMO.

If McAnuff is still with us. QPR friend of mine thinks they will sign him next week.

If they do we ought to be able to siphon off enough of that to get a decent replacement at the price they'll have to give us. Even taking into account a lot will go into our £3.5m hole.

On his Twitter feed he's be saying he's fully fit, and up to level 31 on the bleep test.

Sarah Star What's a bleep test? :?

Wiki can explain it better than I can :

The test involves running continuously between two points that are 20 m apart. These runs are synchronized with a pre-recorded audio tape, CD or laptop software, which plays beeps at set intervals. As the test proceeds, the interval between each successive beep reduces, forcing the athlete to increase their speed over the course of the test, until it is impossible to keep in sync with the recording (or, in rare occasions, if the athlete completes the test).

The recording is typically structured into 21 'levels', each of which lasts around 62 seconds. Usually, the interval of beeps is calculated as requiring a speed at the start of 8.5 km/h, increasing by 0.5 km/h with each level thereafter. The progression from one level to the next is signaled by 3 rapid beeps. The highest level attained before failing to keep up is recorded as the score for that test.

A test with bleeps.

Seriously, it's a simple fitness test. Basically you run between two lines a set distance apart, 20 metres I think, within the time set between a minute of bleeps on a tape recording. After the minute is up the time between the two bleeps decreases, therefore lowering the time allowed to run between the two lines. Simple really.

Still not completely sure where level 31 comes into it, but at least I have a better idea of what he's talking about, so thanks both of you.

Yeah, the beep test only has 21 levels, but level 21 is tough and if you've gone through all the other levels you've complete almost 5k at an avg speed of 18.5km/h

Do you think he meant 21 instead of 31? They wouldn't add extra levels, would they?

I think it's more likely that he meant 13 and transposed the numbers. He's coming back to fitness so I doubt he'd have got all teh way to teh top.

The only other option is that RFC use a non-standard bleep test with more levels in it.

13 sounds more logical

3 and 1 are not numbers likely to be transposed. (Just saying like...)
