Homeless World Cup

by STAR Liaison » 01 Jul 2015 10:14

A little plug for the Homeless World Cup 2015 which takes place in Amsterdam 12-19 September 2015.

The Jason Roberts Foundation is behind the debuting Grenada team - one of 64 competitors. The Brazilian men and the Mexican women are favourites for each tournament.

Not sure I understand the economics behind flying homeless people round the world for a game of football but sounds like a good cause nonetheless.

According to Sky Sports News, it's the only team that isn't selected on ability....... clearly they have never seen a Reading team with HRK in the starting lineup.

It's to raise awareness because that's more rewarding to the organizers than using the money to house them. Also they don't want their best players to be ineligible for the next tournament because they have a home

That's obviously rubbish. The U21 team isn't selected on ability, it's age based. The Women's team is restricted to those of a particular sex and the Blind team is only open to those without sight, There is no team in which ability is the sole criteria, and even the men's squad never contains the 23 best players with English qualification.

Take your beef up with Sky Sports then, where their presenters are not selected purely on their ability to present..... unless looking presentable is the key criteria?

I would if I cared !

But if you called the media every time some says something wrong, or illogical, or meaningless you'd never get off the phone ....
