Supporters Trust At Reading Town...... Well you may as well be if your providing them with new goalposts (Today's Evening Post)

I've nothing against charity, but everytime I see STAR making donations from the £10 memberships to causes outside of Reading FC and it's fans I worry that there's going to be a shortfall if the time ever comes for STAR to stand up and be counted - Say if Reading FC shares ever go public. If STAR has too much cash to spare then maybe they should simply reduce the amount they take in from memberships?

Just my views, ones I've repeated often enough before. Nothing personal or anything.

I'm not a STAR member at the moment and this kind of thing is the main reason why, plus the fact I have no need for extra royalty points or coach travel.

I believe they did it even when they were a Supporters' Club.

Sorry that you are not a STAR member Forbes especially when you imply STAR should be ready to rescue the club, maybe you should look wider than joining for Royalty point or coach travel. 8)

I think you will find among our aims and objectives that we are trying to promote football in the local community and so, as so many other teams use the Scours Lane pitch, we were not just helping Reading Town. Maybe you should join again and use your STAR membership card to go to some Reading Town games getting the discount we have got for our members.

STAR does have reserves as well as helping out with various football based projects but do you seriously think that the cost of the goalposts would go far if STAR were ever having to pay Reading FC players salaries?

Good answer.

I don't quite agree with all the aims and objectives of STAR, My idea of a supporters trust is that the orgainisation should be there for the supporters first and foremost and not for the community.

I'm keeping my £10 a year until I need to join STAR or until it's needed, STAR seems to have more than enough cash to spend on things that are not supporter related and whilst I applaud charitable donations I feel members should make them theirselves to the causes they support rather than have them donated from monies paid into the supporters trust which may ultimately lead to the supporters trust not having funds available to make a difference when supporters need them to.
