Andy, why does the BBC insist on using non-geographical numbers for local radio phone-ins?

For your travel and sport features, the majority of people phoning will be calling from mobiles or from home.

Most people have contracts with inclusive minutes enabling them to call landlines and mobiles as part of their pre-payed contract. Unfortunately, 0845, 0870 etc numbers are not included in most people's tariffs therefore they have to pay extra, or are prevented from accessing these numbers as their mobile contract requires topping up.

Why don't you issue an 0118 number? Is it because it makes you see too Reading-orientated?

It's due to the unique way the BBC is funded. HTH.

Forbury Lion Liam

Greg Halford, John Halls and Ulyses De La Cruz have all tried to make the right back slot their own, What makes you believe you can achieve this?

Regards
Graeme Murty, local radio presenter and footballer.

Liam, you share the same birthday as Sir Steve Coppell.

Do you have plans for a joint birthday party?

If so, might I recommend

Liam,

Do you have banter with anyone at Reading yet? Who has the best banter?

If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

Would a fly without wings be called a walk?

Cheers

Liam,

Do you have any plans for St. Andrews Day?

Thanks

Liam

Craven Cottage with its history, heritage and the charm of Archibald Leitch's classic stand with gable, or the MadStad with all concrete and plastic but with no great character?

Thanks

DG

Liam,

How good is it to have a Dad who was perhaps the number one free transfer on Championship Manager 97/98?

What a good lad - might challenge Kits as the most grounded, intelligent and thoughtful in the squad.

Yep - thought that too. Although to be fair, most Reading players are of a similar type.

BBC Radio Berkshire Redeeming myself in the eyes of Nobbers everywhere, I have it on good authority that Liam Rosenior is our guest this Friday.

In the meantime, there's a very decent interview with Kevin Doyle at bbc.co.uk/berkshire at the moment...talking about Stephen Hunt's tackle (oo-er) amongst other things.

Andy - if you're at a loose end you could do a lot worse than spend 5 minutes teaching the kid (Chris, I think) who was doing the Travel News on Saturday afternoon how to pronounce "Madejski".

Oh man, that wound me up no end. I forgive traveling away fans for getting it wrong, but a BBCB person? Embarrassing.

107 is just as bad - Gilkesy can't pronounce it either, "Majayski" every time.

My boss calls it the Majetski - I have had to try really hard to refrain from lamping her.

I don't think anyone could beat Jeremy Beadle talking about his 'great friend' John Majetski.

But don't worry, all full-time staff here have to pronounce Madejski right (and Sailosi Tagicakibau) 100 times in their interview before being let on air.

Nearly all of our Saturday travel comes from external freelancers who sometimes aren't aware of the correct pronunciation, but they are usually branded with hot irons for getting it wrong.

Apologies nonetheless.

In answer to Cheery on the subject of call charges, I have consulted the top brass and this is their answer...

"We introduced these numbers originally to deliver the price of a local call right across the patch.

However, times are changing and I appreciate that many people now have phone deals which include call rates and it is for that reason that the BBC is now reviewing its policy on using 0845 numbers."

So, watch this space...

Thanks! I noticed that BBC Lonners have an 020 number which is great however it does connect you to Danny Baker which is not great.
