PA announcer

by Nobby » 16 Aug 2015 20:40

Seems the bloke who did the Leeds game and calls us Reading Royals is back to stay.

Is there no-one else who could do this more professionally?

I thought they'd got rid of him after he played music to the Bradford pitch invader.

But I m told we are now stuck with him.

I will also add confirmation of my dislike of him to this thread.

You need a genuine die-hard fan to be a really effective PA Announcer and get the crowd on your side - Bring Back JR!

This new guy is terrible.

We need to start a 'bring back Paul Allen campaign'.

Life long Reading fan and 14 years at the club.

I always try to take the high ground on these issues to the point of prickism, but that guy today was really a long long way off the mark. oxf*rd the trumpets too.

How does it compare to the all time ultimate cringe of Allardyce era Bolton with fat Northerners waddling up the touchline with fcuk off massive flags to the sounds of James Brown's "I Feel Good" whilst their drummers prattle on, making a noise reminiscent of a twenty bees trapped in a tin can?

Just little things like referring to the East Block grate. He's obviously trying but he obviously has never been to a game before.
Best announcer is the one at Anfield, top notch and plays great music too.

They could have sat down with this guy over the off-season, told him where he was going wrong - i.e. to learn something about a football crowd and learn something about football.

Instead it seems "the powers that be" are so bloody impressed by this half American stadium DJ, half children's party entertainer that they've given him free reign to completely take over with his awful music and completely cringeworthy "banter".

I blame the club as much as the guy himself. They're evidently aware of what people say on social media, yet choose to rise above it in a holier than thou manner that astounds me. And people wonder why we're called tinpot so often - well, ain't it obvious?

Oh yeah - good to see Sweet Caroline is still being shouted from the rafters. That worked well. QED.

He doesn't know how to announce the team.

It needs to be "#1 - Jonathan Bond, pause for cheering, #2 - Chris Gunter, pause for cheering..."
He wasn't leaving gaps, and he was switching it up too much.

The worst thing was probably harassing people in the crowd. That was painful.

I'm glad others picked up in this! He is awful, sounded like some dodgy late night radio DJ that loves the sound of his own voice!

Is he the same guy who was the PA guy and the ice hockey for Bracknell and Basingstoke?

If he is (and even if he isn't, to be honest) he needs informing that football isn't ice hockey, and his efforts at getting the crowd going are just utterly embarrassing.

If the club wonders why there's not much atmosphere at games, failing to score in 12 of the last 16 home league games might be a factor.

Prior to the game he kept referring to 'This building is filling up'! It's a stadium not a building.
