Record Breaking Team

by SueRoberts » 26 Oct 2016 15:03

Just had a phone call from Kevin Bremner saying he won't be attending on Saturday as a matter of principle as the Club are charging £60 if they want to bring their wives. Typical Reading FC - disgraceful. Kevin was a great player and ambassador for Reading FC at a time when players were paid peanuts. Real shame that he won't be there he will be missed

Hi Sue Roberts,

You have been caught by the Columbian FARC, walked for miles through the jungle and are being held captive in a wooden shack. After many months of this with no word of your release, your spirit is broken. Early one morning you spot your moment to escape, your captors have been getting slack and this morning they are sleeping off a hangover and not paying attention. You are going to creep away but first you stop and decide to take something with you. You only have time to grab either a comedy pair of glasses with mustache attached or a pair of latex trousers one size too small. For unexplained reasons you must wear your chosen item for the full 200 mile walk to freedom.

Which do you choose?

What colour are the trousers?

PS - shame on the club over this.

I'm confused, was the invite for Kevin Bremner or Kevin Bremner +1?

:D

Also to answer the question at hand, i would opt for the glasses with mustache combo, would surely aid the getaway in terms of not being recognised?

This is a bit like when I packed my job in at Tescos and they took my discount card off of me.

You know what Sue? I now shop with Sainsbury's - they can shove it.

Give Kevin my regards.

Shame on the club.

Didn't this also happen with the Simod Cup 25 year anniversery when a number of the squad boycotted the game due the club penny pinching? We were in the prem then too...

whatever- he gets 1 free ticket in hospitality, think that's fair.
how many ex players get the freebies?
that's 60 quid each they could sell to someone else.

Maybe they could have sold it to someone else but I doubt all the hospitality areas are rammed full this season. There were certainly empty spaces last season. So it would only really have cost the club whatever the wives had to eat and drink. Given it was the big half-time entertainment and the club used their appearance to help promote the game, I reckon it wouldn't have been unreasonable for the club to swallow maybe another £300-400 to allow partners to attend.

It's easy to keep saying someone else should cough up several hundred pounds. First rule of business is to keep control of your costs isn't it ?
Obviously 11 wives at £60 would cost £660 not £300 which maybe shows how numbers get misused (appreciating RB was talking about cost of booze etc rather than of tickets) !
But it does seem a shame to not be able to give Bremner a round of applause. I wonder whether a bit of creative thinking might have seen someone sponsor the players in return for a bit of publicity and some nice pics. Maybe a few of us on here would have forked out the cash in return for having our pics taken with some heroes but no one was quick enough to think sideways and solve the problem.....

11 wives @ £60 = £660 would not have even been the actual "cost-price" to the club either.......what an all-round shame.....especially for those supporters that were around back then ......and what was club history that is unlikely to be ever honoured ever again
