Newcastle and Leeds home games

by Royal_jimmy » 01 Feb 2017 22:58

There's something I think the club should do after seeing Leeds take 6K to Blackburn tonight.

I hope we only offer Leeds and Newcastle just a 2K allocation and try and get our own fans in half of the south stand. If we give these 2 clubs a 4K allocation then that'll give them an advantage.

If we can't fill it with our own fans then so be it, 20 grand in lost match day revenue is nothing for promotion defining games, especially when we could win 100 million for promotion.

Thoughts?

I can't see us offering any less than the 4K. It's not really a Reading move.

We've given away fans low ticket prices and never restricted their allocation of tickets and it's hardly had a negative effect on our home form.

Agree with RJ's sentiments but suspect this will be the case

We'll just have to beat them on the pitch, if not in the stands.

Just to add, Villa are the only team who have filled 4K in the away end and well.... They were loud and it made a difference. The club would be foolish to offer them that especially as I think more people will come to games now we are having a good season

Newcastle tickets are already on sale and aren't offering the south stand option (yet) anyway.

If the demand builds and we start to get close to selling out with only single tickets left then I wouldn't be surprised if 1 half of the south stand is open to home fans by the time we play Leeds.

If they restrict away fans to a tiny allocation then it would give big security issues.
There will already be Leeds and Newcastle fans buying tickets in home areas and cutting their proper allocation would make that worse.
Not a reason NOT to try and have as many home fans there as possible, but a factor.
The big issue will be that home fans have not given the team great support this season so have hardly given the club the question about how they split the south stand. If people had been turning up in bigger numbers I have no doubt the south would have been used, but the demand has not been there (although of course the glory hunters will be wanting their seats back now.....)

It's a very good shout that I think other clubs have implemented to positive effect, however Nameless' point above probably covers why they won't do it.

I'd have thought we wouldn't sell to people from Leeds or Newcastle who don't have a prior purchasing history.

It's not hard to get tickets if you want them.

Leeds and Newcastle have fans living all over the country.

Still, my point is that I can see there being a big demand from our own fans for tickets for these games, especially if we win these next 2
