Pre-Season tour - Holland 2017

by Hendo » 31 May 2017 16:32

I see it has been announced that the team will be travelling to the Netherlands for their pre-season tour this summer - http://mobile.readingfc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/royals-to-head-back-to-holland-for-pre-season-3726819.aspx

With no summer holiday planned, thinking of possibly doing this for a few days if the dates work out well. Not done a pre-season tour before.

Let's hope we don't return with Peter Van der Kwaak and Elroy Kromheer this time.

I think they'll announce them the same day as the kit launch.

Why are our friendlies taking so long to get confirmed? The longer they leave it the more expensive it'll be for our fans for flights, ferry or trains who decide to go.

The team are back in training in 10 days for pre season and only one closed doors game against the fake hoops has been confirmed

Presumably because everything was delayed 3 weeks by the play-offs. Stam is still on holiday, isn't he? I doubt he's the only one.

It's not ideal for fans; but they'll be meticulously planning a decent trip for Stam and the players worthwhile of getting 25-odd players over there for. Even if we had gone up, we still would have had to wait this long for details tbh.

They could have looked into this before the playoff final though. It doesn't matter who we play whether we were a premier league or championship team as they're only warm up games

We would have had a bigger budget had we gone up so plans could have been different.

U23s take on bath city on the 18th july and wealdstone on the 22nd which could be fun new grounds if the weather is right and the first team are away

If we had won the final I suspect we'd have gone to Thailand / China preseason.

Oh dear, don't tell Top Flight he'll lose his shit.

Bath's ground is fantastic, much like Elm Park in many respects and a fantastic city if you wanted a day out

Bath City shouldn't be a new ground for hard core Reading fans. IIRC Bristol Rovers played there briefly when they left Twerton park and we had a cup replay there....
IF I recall rightly it's more Palmer Park than Elm Park though !

Who was the Reading player sent off in that game. If I remember it was a case of mistaken identity ?

Think we've played at Twerton Park more often than just a few times - Rovers were there for 10 years.

Was there for that. Bristol Rovers' first competitive game at Twerton. Reading won 2-1 in the League Cup first round. Senior (who else) got the winner I think.

Plenty of other league and cup games were to follow in the late 80s and early 90s as well.
