Pre Season 2018/19

by royalp-we » 08 Apr 2018 15:43

Around 10 to 12 weeks until our pre season begins. Quite rightly, Clement has suggested, it's all about getting over the line for the remaining 3 weeks of the season.
But then our attention can switch to building something competitive for the 2018/19 campaign.

World Cup fever will still be in full flow when the players return from their holidays; but what should the club organise for this year's preparations?

Do we go to China? Allow Gourlay to get some glamour ties organised? Ask Clement where and when we should go? Stay in Blighty and go to flamengo land?

It would be great if the club could arrange some fixtures that fans can actually attend this year (not just a single fixture at Adams Park).

Where would you have Clement take his squad?

Some competitive pre-season games would be a welcome change instead of playing bloody pub teams.

Did he really

Was that because he replaced Shteve Mclaren in June?

A French / German tour would be my pick. But with the club releasing details at the end of May; instead of July for a change.

I think it's pretty clear that what we need is a nice relaxed foreign jolly, with some jokey kickabouts played behind closed doors so that the official site can pretend they were serious warm-up games. After all, it worked so well last summer. Everyone was raring to go once the first day came round, and at no stage did we find that we didn't even have enough players to fill a bench.

Oh yes, and whatever we do it is also obvious that we don't need to bring in any more forwards.

Anyone have the faintest idea when we might hear news of a tour or at least some pre-season fixture dates? I can never remember when they're normally done

Now the season is over and the club know what division (and what budget) they will be playing in, I would think the details are being finalised and we should see something towards the end of the month.

Paul Clement said he was due to meet with the powers that be this week to finalise budgets and things so I would hope to hear something shortly. In addition big Tim said he was due to interview Ron Gourlay tomorrow or Thursday so perhaps there might be news from that by the end of this week/over the weekend.

Nice seaside trip that and good to see the club are announcing them nice and early. Last summer's pre season was a complete shambles!

As it's a Saturday in the summer = OUT, otherwise I would've gone.

Good to see the club announcing early though.

Rumours on Twitter that there will be an Austrian tour this year. A lot of teams head there to train so could be a good opportunity to get a game in against a German or Italian top flight club. Doubt we'd get a game v Bayern but Bayern II is probable.

Am off there on holiday so would be nice if there is an overlap in dates/locations.
