 Built in two years!

Sounds about right to me. I reckon that could get it done in 18 months if they had to.

Surprised it would even take that long tbf. It's only supposed to be a basic platform. Even with ground work 12 months seems generous.

If it were a construction project elsewhere, you are probably right. However construction on the railway has to fit in around the very restricted periods when no trains are running. Some of the work will be able to be done clear of the lines, but much of it will involve the line needing to be closed. Also there may be implications for the signalling systems, and also training traincrews on the existence of the new station.

Green Has anyone approached Dirk Gently for comment?

Alexander Litvinenko No. I think the whole scheme is now dead in the water.

Hence no GP station.

Has MR Reading FC ever gotten anything right?

+1. I do quite a lot of work on the railway, and 2 years is about par for a new station, even just a fairly simple one like GP seems to be.

Well even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

But no, I don't think so.

The long-awaited Green Park railway station is back on the agenda after plans were submitted to Reading Borough Council

An application outlining plans to build the new station near Green Park business park have been lodged by agents Peter Brett Associates on behalf of the council.

The £8 million station on the Reading to Basingstoke line would have two trains an hour running in each direction.

It would also feature a four-storey car park with 242 spaces, as well as a bus stop, drop-off area and park and ride facility.

But the 25600 sq m station would be unmanned.

Does that mean it will have its penis cut off?

Is 25600 sq m a lot for a station?

How does that compare to say your Winnersh Triangles, Tilehursts or Theales?

brilz. It's not a bad walk in decent weather, but it's a bitch when it's really hot or nasty and wet.

Well if you've ever been to Brighton and experienced the wait for the train from Falmer to Brighton after the match, remember that there are 4 trains per hour doing that journey, and they are each twice as long as the Reading - Basingstoke services. So that's about 4 times the capacity, and yet you still have to wait for 30 - 40 minutes to get on a train. So unless something radical happens with the train service, getting back from Green Park station after the match will be a nightmare.

Would be massive addition to the club, would make me certainly go to more games and id imagine away fans would think more of coming.

Getting to the madstad is a nightmare if not driving.

The 15 minute bus ride from the station in no way factors in my decision to go to a game. I find it bizarre that anyone would make their decision to go or not based on that.

Sounds like the station isn't really going to make any difference to the football. If they ran a shuttle from Reading it might help, but a small train every half hour is only going to carry a couple of hundred people. It will probably be of more benefit to those coming from Basingstoke

Always a pleasure to debate matters with an intellect and wit such as yours.
I don't see that a 15 minute walk followed by a long wait for a train will be any improvement on the existing bus shuttle services.
People returning to Mortimer, Bramley or Basingstoke stations might be slightly better off, if they can get on the first train.

It offers up additional transport capacity. Is it going to get 10,000 people moved quickly? Of course not! But it will take some of the strain off of the roads. If not as much as anyone would like, but it's an improvement on what we've got.
