bcubed Good confident performance. Deserved lead. Not sure why the penalty wasn't given either.

Lingard impressed me again. Never has a bad game for England

He’s an odd one. Never really impresses me for ManUre but seems to do so much better for England.

Presuming the Italy game will be a similar quiet affair and then we can get carried away in quiet hopefulness of reaching the QFs

Messi Lingard has scored a number of important goals for Utd this season

Still think of him as a squad player

Good performance, passed the ball well, Henderson played the anchor role very competently, defence looked calm and we were incisive in the Dutch half, albeit without creating as many chances as we might have hoped.

Yep, on reflection I thought we played pretty well and controlled the game for the most part.

Only disappointing aspect was the lack of clear cut chances being created but I think that comes down to some poor final ball from both wingbacks and a lack of something from Lingard and Oxlade-Chamberlain, the latter should've probably got out wide to support Trippier a little more throughout the first half (that might've been Sterling's failing I guess but there were a number of times when Trippier was left pointing beyond him on the right because he didn't have anyone to pass to).

Best thing about the performance for me was the number of times we actually passed the ball forwards instead of the sideways and back passes that we are used to seeing all too often from England sides.

Looking forward to seeing how we do against a better Italy side tomorrow night.

And enjoyed our goal last night. Sterling was Cannigia-esque as Italy tried to hack him down, and great awareness from Lingard to set Vardy away. Cracking finish too.

And one more - Jamie Vardy's scoring record. He now has goals against Germany, Holland, Spain and Italy. And this season of his 17 Leicester goals, 10 are against Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Chelsea (all x 2), Spurs and United. Big game player!

I think my preferred team would be:

Pickford
Walker, NO IDEA!!!, NO IDEA!!!!!, Rose (?)
Dier
Lingard, Alli, Sterling
Vardy, Kane

That is a good team.

I have no idea CB wise who I would take. Maybe Maguire and Cahill? Stones/Jones are a liability.

The bench is still weak though I think.

Not a fan of Vardy the person (or persona we see at least) but he's a hell of a dangerous forward.

I thought we did alright last night and created more decent opportunities than we did against the Dutch despite not looking as comfortable. The errors at the back looked like a bit of early complacency following the ease at which we played out from the back on Friday and probably a good thing to happen if we remember that lesson moving forwards.

I'm a big fan of Lallana and I thought he did well when he came on. Lingard has some very effective moments in games (as you say the quick free quick was very good work) but I still can't warm to him as a player and I can see Alli and Lallana being better options than Lingard and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Positive steps though, and good work by Southgate.
