tulip
sandman Winners: Spain
Top scorer: Cristiano Ronaldo
Biggest flops: Holland
England: 2nd round

No one in Holland expects them to go further than the second round at the most. Spain in the group and Brazil in the second round, it would take a miracle to progress.

Rubbish. Dutch would probably have said the same thing last time only they knocked Brazil out and kept Spain at bay for 115 minutes or whatever.

Draw with Spain, win heavily elsewhere, avoid Brazil, etc etc. Dutch qualified in some style didn't they?

This is what Stan Collymore thinks the starting XI will be vs Italy

I reckon he could be right, the "defensive" approach

What a horrific line-up.
Arguably more conservative than the 0-0 against Italy in 2012 that reaped us 1 shot on target over 120 minutes.
The most boring game I have ever seen in my life and 2 years later our attacking line-up might be even weaker:
Young, Milner, Welbeck and Rooney  Milner, Welbeck and Rooney
 :(

I'll be in Amsterdam for that game and if that lineup pops up on the TV I'll be straight out of that bar to find something more interesting to do.

We will see but optimism is not high. First game on Friday the 13th against Spain  I also think Brazil will be stronger on home ground.

That to me says England are gonna stink the WC out just as they did in the last 3 World Cups. They won't get out of the group with that lineup.

If Sturridge doesn't start, I'm gonna cut Roy.

Let's hope Stan's got it all wrong.

I wouldn't mind that lineup for the Italy game as a draw would be a good result for us.

For the other two games though we need to be more adventurous, especially as I'll be at least one of them (oooo, look at me)

I'm not a Liverpool fan but how can anyone think starting Welbeck ahead of Sturridge would be anything other than a hideous mistake?

Sturridge isn't as effective out wide. We'lbeck has already delivered for England

You have to start Lallana to be honest. Best player in a long time, put him as an Attacking MIdfielder instead of Henderson, put Wilshere alongside Gerrard and I think your almost there

I always have a feeling that Holland might just implode but they never really do. 2012 they did, 2006 they went a bit mental in the game vs Portugal but as pointed out, 2010 was a final appearance and they're usually good for a quarter final appearance.

I can't see Holland winning it but Van Gaal going to take over Manchester United could have two implications:

1) they could be a bit shit now and the squad have had their day
2) he wants to go out with a bang

Brave.. I'd be resting him on the hope they can get through the group stages without him if I were them.

tbf I was only quibbling with the use of "miracle" - they do have it tough but they're not a bad side.

Out of interest what would constitute Belgium being a surprise package for you? A lot of people seem to be backing them to do well.
