Yes but don't forget any real meaningful insight requires thought and research. Far easier for your Mersons, your Redknapps and your Kamaras to just trot out a lazy generalisation and make it sound like it's based on facts.

Agreed in general, but it is the case that all 4 World Cups held in South America (as well as both in Mexico) have been won by South American teams.

Given one of them took a 6 month* boat journey to get to, there may have been a reason for that.

Not sure i buy into the it's in South America so only a South American team can win

- Only been hosted in SAm (+ mex) 6 times.
- The beaten finalist's in the last 4 hosted in SAm where European
- Brazil had a period of domination between '58 and '70 winning it 3 times out of 4. Two of those hosted in SAm. Is it a good team or location or a combination?
- Three of the finals where before we showed the rest of the world how to play football in '66  (not sure how competitive the earlier comp was compared to what it is now)

Plus as Papes says travel/climate was more of an issue in earlier competitions

Koppen world climate map. Based on distribution of vegetation that grows in that region (i.e. rain forest to f¨ck all)

Uruguay won in 1930 when more than half the teams in it were from south america. They also won in 1950 when lot of teams were either banned or pulled out.

No one in Holland expects them to go further than the second round at the most. Spain in the group and Brazil in the second round, it would take a miracle to progress.

It's a crying shame tbf! But I still have 2 teams to support & expect at least 1 will reach the final stages.

Just filled in the dates on my calendar and I'd be lying if I said 2 weeks of group stages didn't make me tent.
