Royal Rother Self-contradiction there.

I couldn't figure out a way to say it without doing that unfortunately. My definition of world class is probably different to yours, which is different to somebody else's. I was trying to say the top 30 players who have ever played football are world class footballers, definitely in fact a lot more then 30 footballers are world class footballers, over 100. I just plucked a random number out of the air which happened to be 30. Rooney would not get anywhere near the 30 top footballers to have ever played football, maybe even 100.

Good Lord, he is nowhere close to being in the Top 100 ever.

In a pretty decent review / assessment of the Top 100 players still playing as of 2013 put together by caught offside.com Rooney came in at No 49.

Royalclapper The massive irony is that the Premier League is unashamedly touted about as the fastest, most intense league there is. And yet, once this WC started there was game after game played at an unforgiving relentless pace chock full of excitement...........and guess what?......England were found to be well short of being able to play with high technique at high pace :|

Well quite. It's as if the players in the Prem providing the high tempo aren't the English ones.

The highest tempo team in last season's PL were Liverpool.......who had 5 starters for England.

Who were the teams consistently playing at the high tempo? Was mainly the countries from the Americas wasn't it?

The Dutch and Germans played spells at a higher tempo but they weren't hell for leather all the time. It's almost like people had been banging on for years how the European teams might struggle it bit in South America.

Rooney didn't look too great last night from what I gather but I suppose the opposition was just too good for him to show his world class credentials.

I dunno, I just think RR doesn't really understand the difference between a World Cup and a game you don't have to bother paying even the slightest bit of attention to.

I didn't watch the Costa Rica game or the Norway game so yes, you're probably right.

there's a million definitions of world class, and your answer depends on how you define it, personally.

if you mean - is he THE best player in the world in his position of course rooney doesnt qualify, but that seems like quite a limited definition

By world class he probably means that in a 'best of the world' team versus another planet, very likely to make a squad of 18

Some world class misses and freekicks this evening from The Roonster. Not.

Ok, scored with one free kick but law of averages means that was going to happen, plus cr@p 'keeping.
