Flyingkiwi Is that 6 added minutes???

Yep, lot of subs and some injuries. Mind you Spain could play until tomorrow and not score.

How they just failed to score when there were about 6 of them in the Chilean box, I'll never know.

We'll. Thanks for coming, Spain. Leave the trophy behind when you go home.

AND TAKE THAT PRAT DRUMMER WITH THE BIG BERET WITH YOU!

Ta.

Well played Chile.
Lols at Spain, who thought they could just turn up in Brazil and waltz through to the semis (obviously no evidence to back this up).

Spain's success seems to have been exclusively built around having a really tight defence and boring the opposition into a mistake with relentless slow possession.

Thing is though, if the opposition pressure you hard as a unit and can break on you at pace with skill, then if that defence is no longer water tight, you find yourself behind and struggling to get back into the game. The patient waiting game to grind out a result like water eroding a rock doesn't work like that. Especially if you also don't take the chances you do wriggle through.

The commentry was spot on. They just weren't clinical with what they produced and didn't produce much because they were so one paced.

Don't know what's sadder, the best international team I have ever seen go out like that or how many of you are revelling in it.

That was poor international team. Spain of 4 years ago would have won comfortably.

For me, I prefer exciting football like the beautiful stuff produced by the Germans over the last 6-10 years.

In the morning I might agree with you. At the moment I'm revelling in the anarchic nature of some of the games so far. Reputations count for nothing. Holland thrash Spain, Costa Rica beat Uruguay, England look occasionally quite good, Germany thrash Portugal, Mexico outplay Brazil, Australia scare Holland, Chile beat Spain.

Just wait until Iran get into gear .... :P

That's all Spain needed off the back of a shattering defeat, Chile just harass you to death and are a very capable team. Poor miss from Busquets which may have altered things a little but Chile deserved their win overall.

When Spain sit down to have a rethink, they're going to have to find a better balance in the side, too many different systems going on now instead of their all conquering tiki-taka . Chileans on the other hand must be absolutely thrilled to have a team like that to represent them.

Well unfortunately for you Ian and the rest of you, they'll be back. They won the under 21 championship last summer and have some top players like Jese, Isco, Thiago, Koke, Inigo Martinez and numerous others coming through. Where they failed this time was Del Bosque through being too loyal to certain players and didn't pick those players, some like Jese and Thiago through injury tbf to him.
