Best WC moment/memory you have seen/experienced.

Wondering what people's best memory or moment from any World Cup has been that you have ever experienced or seen in your lifetime.

Mine has to be 2010, went to the World Cup in South Africa! Went with my father (he was born in cape town, most my family live in Jo'burg). My grandad got us tickets to various games, mostly Holland ones as he is Dutch. Obviously being there was incredible experience, and made even better by the atmosphere of the whole place and people. Only the 3rd time I had been there and seen my Grandad, and he passed away just after the WC finished so was glad I got the chance to go and see him.

Another moment that sticks out for me is Dennis Bergkamp and his goal against Argentina in 1998. Hands down one of the best goals I have seen still, and he is still in my top 2 best players I have seen live at a match (Thierry Henry the other)

I think this WC however has been the most exciting by far. I love it! Don't care about England going out, I love the emergence of teams like Colombia, Chile and even Costa Rica. For me that is what football is about. Emotion and exciting moments like the ends of the Greek/Ivory Coast game and US/Portugal. This is the reason why I love football!

I've not actually been to any world cup game. BUT have, obviously, watched many games live on TV and have never celebrated a goal more than when Winston Reid equalised for New Zealand Vs Slovakia during the 2010 World Cup. I was in a short-stay apartment/hotel in Shenzhen (A place I loathe), it was about 2 or 3 am, in the 3rd minute of time added on. Anyone else in that apartment building that morning would have learnt a number of new English words.

Went to England v France 1966-a comfortable win with Liverpool's Roger Hunt scoring IIRC.
Having won this game we(the fans) started to believe that we could actually do quite well especially with Brazil being (physically) kicked out of the tournament and Italy failing dismally.
Up until then nobody thought we had a chance of winning outright.
The rest is (for most of you) history as momentum built and (in case some of you don't know) we went on to win it.

For the next World Cup but for Bonetti and Labone messing things up against Germany (we were arguably Brazil's equals in the game against them,Pele et al) it was felt we had a better side and could well have won it again to become the first European side to win it in South America-we are still waiting for that to happen.

My favourite game was probably Italy v Brazil in Spain 1982-all action, end to end football played in the searing heat without a single water bottle in sight.
It was even hot here.

Faithful Son This from 1974 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4crYvBgh4Jc

This,
Northern Ireland beating Spain in 1982 (Gerry Armstrong's goal),
Cameroon beating Argentina in 1990 first game despite having 2 sent off and
Ireland beating Italy in first game in 1994 (Ray Houghton).

Worst - cheating Schumacher putting Patrick Battiston in a coma in 1982.

Being in Cologne on the 20th of June 2006.

In the massive public viewing area in Cologne's main square amongst thousands of Germans I saw Germany beat Ecuador 3:0, with lots of English fans milling around (England were playing in Cologne that evening) admiring the German support/drinking/women/footballing skill. A very friendly atmosphere.

Then spent the afternoon drinking seeing more and more English fans turn up, and whilst there was a lot of drinking and banter it was never ugly.

Then watched England draw 2:2 with Sweden in the evening game. It was a great game and great atmosphere, and great English support. The English support was impressive because of it's numbers and noise, and the Swedish support was impressive because it contained some amazing blondes.

Got the train back to my Gran's with my brother after midnight, got chatting to a German girl and her BF, she apparently had been offered work on sex phone lines because she had a sexy voice. I could believe it, and she wasn't bad looking, and pretty flirty too, and so a great addition to the bank.

The game was shit, but Platt's 120th minute spinning volley against Belgium in 1990 was quite a moment.

Pele's dummy v Uruguay in 70 semi-final. Never saw anyone attempt anything like that before or since. Probably a good thing that he did not score, as it proved that he was merely human after all.

S'alright and that, but essentially by deciding on an elaborate dummy he's just squandered a really easy chance to score.

Not a dummy. He just bottled it because the keeper was coming out.

Maradona too. All this dribbling and shit. I mean it was only Terry Butcher, ffs.

Little statoid - Shilton was the only player over 30 in that '86 squad.
