John Madejski's Wallet
bcubed Clear push in the back for Swiss equaliser
Why no VAR?
VAR and ref obviously don't think it was had enough to be a proper foul

I've got sympathy with that view, if you blew up for everything like that at a set piece, they'd all end in either a penalty or a free kick to the defending side. It was pretty standard jockeying and I think he was under it even without the push. You have to be stronger than that as a defender.

By contrast, the one at the other end where his arms were all round the Brazilian as he bumped into him whilst the guy was turning, I'd have liked that to get a review from VAR.

If you're mid air and get a two handed push in the back you can be as strong as you like you'll be pushed out of position.

And not that I'm bitter but far more of a push than those that caused Sol Campbell's "goals" to be disallowed.

Up the other end it was contact (jostling) both stayed on their feet followed by a clear dive imo.

Edit - just seen it again he wasn't off the ground but still a foul imo.

No wonder refs get so much shit if so many people watch the same clips yet see completely different things!

Well, indeed. In that respect VAR hasn't really changed anything.

South Korean manager admits his players have been wearing shirts with wrong names on the back to stop any possible spy reporting back on tactics. He said he did it as westerners find it difficult to tell the difference between Asians so would not know they were wearing the wrong shirts.

50/50 for me
but pragmatically if that kind of light touch is a foul then the whingeing defenders would be whingeing a lot more in future as everything they ever do ends up as a penalty.
for me the touch is so soft that any defender worth his salt would be ashamed to appeal for a foul, and I'm glad it wasn't given

So at least in this world cup it seems the time allowed for VAR is as long as it takes the VAR team to review it and then tell the ref to have a look himself

Is the longest we've been without a red card in the World Cup? Midway through game 11 and no red to date?

Ref a bit poor for the Sweden game, seems unnecessarily whistle happy and needed VAR to spot an obvious penalty.

Ascotexgunner Have they found Ozil yet?

The classic line about ozil going missing belies IMO people who only thing of attacking midfielders who run around a lot and score goals and dribble. Someone like Lampard Gerrard or something like that.

Ozil sets up so many goals its ridiculous. That is what he does.

The best moments for Germany came in that match when Ozil did clever passes that few other players can see, let alone execute. By doing these unorthodox passes space opens and lead to goals. That is what he does. And in a sport like football doing that twice in a match can be the difference between a comfortable win and a defeat.

Yes he isnt as physical as other players but more often than not he will create you a goal. Which is a tangible output more useful in football than tackling and fouling people a bit more.

You are right to doubt it, as it is bollocks.

Japan v Colombia.

Going for an easy win for Colombia. I think Japan will be the group whipping boys.

3-0 Colombia.
