I like Salah, works hard and by all accounts is a nice bloke.

He was clearly struggling with his shoulder/match fitness, half the player he normally is.

More direct free kicks scored in this WC already than in the whole of WC2014

It's all well and good ronaldo being one of the best in the world but the rest of this Portugal team aren't exactly setting the game alight right now. Ronnie's already double teapotting at some of his team-mates decisions

Absolutely, without Ronaldo they would be struggling for sure.

Group A nearly done if Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia this afternoon. Egypt and Saudi Arabia would be out, and the final group game would see Russia and Uruguay play off for the dubious honour of winning Group A, with likely opponents Portugal or Spain in round two.

Group A has got me thinking about group qualification rules - Russia pretty much guaranteed top spot by dint of their 5-0 win on the opening day, unless Uruguay get an equally good result tonight. I'd rather FIFA switched to result against the other team to split points ties. In theory at least, Uruguay could beat Russia, and the Saudis could beat Uruguay, and Russia would top the group on GD, going through as winners despite losing to the tied second placed team.

2nd place in group A also likely gets you Portugal or Spain in the second round so it doesn't make much difference tbf

TBF they might be a 2 man team with Rui Patricio keeping them ahead with a worldy there

I'd say they're going to get a penalty but Portugal are just about getting away with it so far

Well, that won't do much for VAR's prospects* if it turns out the VAR lads were trying to tell the ref to review Ronnie's penalty claim but his walkie-talkie was broken

*hurray!!

Yeah, that's what I was getting at, just gramatically awkwardly.
Final round of games in group A very much dead rubbers (assuming Uruguay do the business today).

Morocco the first team to be knocked out after that.

Like a modern day Italy, happy with 1-0, but with more cynicism and less flair

Portugal are probably my least favourite team.
