Personally think Ronaldo should have been sent off. Bet if that incident had been the other way round it would have been red.

He 100% looked at his opponent and then moved his elbow toward his face. Contact aside the intent is there and it should have been a red.

Does Ronaldo missing the last 16 and Quarters good business for FIFA though? Nope.

bcubed Yellow card?

For striking an opponent?

It was marginal but if he thinks he struck him surely it's a red?!

Not seen the incident, but possibly not bad enough to be violent conduct, but worthy of unsportsmanlike conduct - or it's something a long those lines anyway?

Caught a glance of the Ronaldo penalty shout, looked a pen to me. Handball was a soft one, hard to argue it was deliberate or his arm was in an unnatural position given the jump.

BBC analysis was poor and no reference to the rules!

But I think Drogba was saying it should have been red or nothing which is my opinion too.

Agree with you on penalties. Ronaldo's was, Iran's was definitely not

Shearer and Lawrence are the biggest idiots ever ... these guys have no ideas about the rules. "That wasn't intentional handball" ... eh ... it can still be a penalty genius.

Wasn't really following last nights games but disappointed to hear Spain were a whisker away from going out. More than any other team I want them to crash and burn the most. They now have the easier route to the final too

You're not doing yourself any favours given the offence is
deliberate handball.

Under law 12.

The Ronaldo hate on social media is quite frankly laughable. you send someone off for that you would finish games 8 a side.
you see that kind of thing numerous times every game, tussling for the ball he caught the Iranian player across the up chest and brushed his neck. went down holding his face like he had been shot, the behaviour of players in this WC is childish.
Shouldn't have even been a yellow.

Nonsense. (Not to say barely decipherable.)

He forearm-smashed the guy on the side of his head.

Certainly a yellow, most players would have been given a red.

You could work for ITV with that level of cliche.

It wasn't Ben Thatcher on Pedro Mendes levels but ronaldo makes a clear decision to do the fella, something the ref clearly saw thanks to the shambles VAR but somehow bottled the decision1

Lol never violent conduct, not really excessive force that endangers a player either.

It's a foul, but that's never a red and it's certainly not a swing at his head / face.

Im not attempting to quote the rules but isnt raising your hand at an opponent generally considered violent conduct and a red card?

And serious question. What was the basis of Beckham's dismissal v Portugal?

If that's the rule then yes

The FA guidance on the law says.. unless there is very little force used.. deliberately hitting someone on the head or face should be a red card.

If course we've seen this interpreted very differently over the years.

Have to agree with RR here, that kind of thing usually results in a red card.

I think I've said before here that I'm not a fan of those red cards as it's not really violent, it's just petulant, but so many have been sent off (despite, I think, the laws stating it has to be significant contact/intent).

For me he should've seen red and the ref either bottled it or saw something completely different on the VAR review.

On the drawing of lots thing, there is an outside chance of this coming into play to determine qualification in Group D. Broadly speaking Argentina need a better result than Iceland to progress tonight, but specifically a 3-1 win for Argentina over Nigeria, with Iceland beating Croatia 3-2, would have both teams on 4 points, with a GD of -1 and 4 goals scored. As the two sides drew their game together, it could come down to a coin flip, fair play excepted, which I'd like to see just for the lolz.

I did. Edited. It can also happen in Group H, if Japan and Senegal both lose their final games, again dependent on fair play points.
