Ascotexgunner Would love to be a fly on the wall in the Argie dressing room. Their manager looked like he was ready to beat the living crap out of them. Looked like a right thug.

Heard on the radio earlier that Messi covered the least distance of any outfield player at the WC in the first round of games.
Argie Messi just ain't Barca Messi

SanguineStranded Interesting* point on VAR made on the 5 live commentary just now. Everytime the ref is called over to the TV to check for a pen, he has given it. Would take a brave ref to view the footage and disagree I guess.
May well save time just to give the pen when VAR give the nod.
Fair point to make I guess, but given VAR is used only when the VAR officials think something has been missed, it shouldn't be a surprise that most (or all) are given.
If/when VAR works properly (and I think it has worked well in the World Cup) then the VAR officials won't refer anything that they don't think is nailed on.

LUX I think it was given cos his arm was outstretched, and the ball hit it on the way towards the goal ( ish). The defender certainly did not mean to handle it, but that is not relevant if the arms are up/ out.
Harsh decision, but prolly correct.

If the defender didn't mean to handle it, it can't be deliberate handball.

Ronaldo would have been trying to make something happen. Messi just isn't the kind of player that can play without world beaters around him

'greed...you can't have your hands that high around the box
you'd get the anti-football mob, like Allardyce, Pulis etc making it a tactic

Soz if I have misunderstood your post but guidelines changed in 2013 so that handballs are not only awarded for it being 'deliberate'
