Weird, really weird.

Hard to criticise the decision too much though, they definitely know what they are doing when it comes to being successful at major tournaments.

Yep, this. But, Julian Brandt over Sane? I don't get it.

Can only think it is an attitude thing behind the scenes that we don't know about. Sane is a bit of a party boy I think, perhaps Low doesn't like that. Can't be on ability, Sane is streets ahead of Brandt.

Maybe that's it but it's very odd. Most would say Sane was one of the best players in the Prem. Bizaare

i read yesterday that Sane has been criticised in Germany for being lazy and not doing all he is asked too, wants to spend his time bombing forward even if he has been asked to hold his position and possibly drop back at times when needed.

may well just be journalists scratching their heads and trying to come up with a reason for his exclusion though

I can see that side of things but realistically how much defending are Germany expecting to be doing? Sane at least has to be in the squad as a sub option should they be chasing a game.

Sky Deutschland's Uli Koehler: "It was a big thing here, nobody was expecting Sane to be left out. It was a big surprise for him. But on the other hand, a lot of people can understand the manager. He played at a high level in EPL but under performed always in the German squad." "A couple of weeks ago there was a game vs Brazil, after the game Kroos said 'some of our players didn't understand what it meant to play against Brazil and give after 100%'. Toni meant Leroy Sane. Leroy didn't go because of sporting reasons only"

Just finished a week in Poland. Lots of football chat. I get the feeling they will underestimate Senegal in the opening group game. Kamil Glik oxf*rd his shoulder yesterday playing keepy uppy over a volleyball net which would be a huge blow as he’s one of the better defenders.

Argies world cup preparations are going well then

Having somehow struggled to qualify they then got dicked 6-1 by Spain back in March but not to worry, they lined up 3 testing friendlies pre world cup to get them fully prepared....Nicaragua Vs Argentina was called off after deciding it wasn't a safe country to travel to, they then played against Haiti who are ranked 108th in the world and then finally Israel Vs Argentina was called off

who the f*ck is arranging their friendly schedule??

While there are no British referees at the World Cup  there is at least one British born official there...

I do find it funny how we slate our refs all season long for being useless, yet get annoyed that none of them are at the world cup.

Apparently linesmen have been instructed NOT to raise their flags for offside when the decision is very tight. Seems FIFA want play to be allowed to develop and if a goal is scored to let VAR make the decision.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... gi-collina

So does that mean that the ref suddenly gets a message in his ear that it’s offside or does play get allowed to continue all the way and then checked if a goal is scored? To my mind it is starting to make an absolute joke of things as the technology is, I thought, only meant to be used if the referee makes a request for it. Next thing you know they’ll do away with refs making the decision on the pitch and just have “drone” officials following orders from afar.

And if play is allowed to continue and a corner is won a minute or so later is it called back for the free kick for offside or does play just continue on as if nothing happened?

Then there’s adding on all the time if play is allowed to continue unnecessarily...

Also very dangerous to show replays of the passage of play in the stadium even if the ref has made his decision as if hundreds/thousands rightly or wrongly don’t agree with that decision it’s going to make things very “stressful” for some.

Overall I wish they would take the whole VAR idea outside somewhere, box it up in a bid lead box padlocked with 50 foot wrought iron battleship chains and then drop the whole lot into the Mariana trench.

We can't really be annoyed about it though. It was the fault of Mark Clattenburg quitting when he did, not on the referees ability.

Cannot wait to hear the greatest national anthem in history later on. Should be extra special later on considering it is actually in Russia.
