Green Distinct lack of hype this year, have we finally accepted we're not gonna win it this time round?

Fukk off! Of course we’ll win it this time. It’s been 52 years of hurt.

In preparation for tonight’s game I’ve had 4 cans of lager and after my next one I’ll throw all my garden chairs over the neighbours fence before going to the shops to get more lager, where I’ll headbutt the first foreign looking pcunt i see.

IN-GER-LAND!!!

Silver Fox
Hoop Blah The weekends games should have served as a good warning to both players and fans as to what to expect.

Apart from the dangers of over-confidence, which this well prepared England side appear to have covered, that's nonsense really. The only thing I'd glean from the games so far that applies to this evening is that the African sides in this world cup are so far hopelessly over-matched.

Over-confidence and the general expectancy of a dominant performance leading to an easy win being my main point.

Tunisia are the highest ranked African nation at 21st in FIFA's well renowned rankings. Egypt (45th) held Uruguay (14th) to a late 1-0 win and Morocco (41st) an even later 1-0 loss to Iran (37th). Nigeria (48th) were not up to too much in the friendly against England and were handled with enough ease by Croatia (20th) and so lets hope our performance against them is our best barometer for tonight.

Granted, the Saudi's were awful but the others haven't been totally shown up and so we shouldn't expect England (12th) to just walk over Tunisia when other teams haven't done the same. Fingers crossed we do of course!!!

52 years of hurt? Depends where you start counting from... defeat by Scotland in the Home Internationals in '67? Defeat in the European Championships in '68? Or defeat to the West Germans in '70? Not 52 years, anyway (unless you're a Scot). I blame Baddiel and Skinner.

I'm in Temple Bar at the mo...not sure which foreign to spark out first

Just seen an American bint start singing Irish tunes for no reason...they really have the wrong view of Dublin, may have to set her straight (i'll put a Dublin accent on for authenticity)

I see what EGR means. I don't think 1966 is inclusive in the "years of hurt".

Exactly, I can't imagine we went into the 1970 tournament proclaiming we wanted to end 4 years of hurt.

EGR's point is valid but then how do you define the period of hurt? Who can say they didn't thoroughly enjoy David Platt's winner against the Belgians?

I tried to come up with a rule of three but apart from "that tackle by Moore" and "when Lineker scored" as obviously mentioned I couldn't t find too much else to disprove Dave and Frank's hypothesis

Michael Owen's goal v Argentina 1998
Beating Argentina 1-0 in 2002 (?).
erm, 1970 was an iconic tournament (but I was only 9).

Both post the original release of 3 Lions of course so ineligible. I guess they could have thrown in Banks's save

Cmon England....Cant believe Im saying that!!!!

I like Southgate a lot.....this England team looks a good unit. Just hope they don't freeze and show the same kind of composure we showed in the Euros.
